Job Title: Chief Engineer
Job Summary
Leads Core Engineering group for execution of daily activities, R&D initiatives, and development of tools and process to support Product Engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Define and develop product development organizational structure and capabilities for Core Engineering group.
Directly manages others and is responsible for staffing, driving performance of each direct report and the team through yearly STAR DGO’s.
Lead core engineering topics for organization/product development group through all phases of product life cycle.
Provide technical expertise and leadership to resolve core related engineering issues.
Support McLaren Product Development Systems and APQP processes through all program phases.
Manage Engineering budgets for programs/projects. Develop program cost estimates and quotes.
Ensure engineering deliverables (design, prototypes, releases, quotes, customer proposals, problem resolution, etc.) are completed on time.
Drive adherence to and participate in product design review meetings.
Lead technical aspects of new business pursuits including support Business Development, Sales and Marketing.
Maintain awareness of industry trends and technical advancements.
Provide strategic direction of all technical aspect of Core Engineering through assessment of internal and competitive tools, methods and capabilities.
Academic/Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 10 years of related experience. Master degree in technical field preferred.
Extensive understanding of driveline/powertrain technology and business. Understandings of engineering disciplines and processes.
Required Skills/Experience
Extensive understanding of driveline/powertrain technology and business. Understanding of engineering disciplines and processes related to core and systems engineering.
Extensive experience in core powertrain/driveline geared system design and development including parallel/cross axis gear design, NVH analysis/testing, bearing analysis/selection, and metallurgical principles.
Experience in various CAE tools such as Romax, Altair Products, GT Suite, Adams, KIMos, KiSSsoft, GEMS.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to communicate effectively to employees. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to customers, senior management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
Ability to comprehend and apply advance mathematics principles. Ability to work with concepts such as equations, limits, statistics and engineering tools.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.), in its most difficult phases. Ability to apply and direct appropriate use of problem-solving methods.
Strong leadership skills with high Self-Motivation and Drive.
Ability to lead cross functional teams and deliver results.
Must be able to work under pressure, be willing to work with tight deadlines, be capable of multi-tasking, and can adjust to changing priorities.
