We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply. **Job Summary** Battelle is seeking a **Chemist** to work full time in the Clinical Standardization Laboratories Branch (CSLB) within the CDC Division of Laboratory Sciences (DLS) on the CDC Chamblee campus. As part of the DLS mission, the CSLB develops and improves methods for assessing disease status associated with and the risk for selected chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and hormonal disorders. The Branch serves as a reference laboratory for these measurements by providing standards that are used as accuracy points by other laboratories around the world. Selected staff member is needed to fill program requirements to assist with the CDC Clinical Reference Laboratories. The selected applicant will have to obtain and maintain a CDC security clearance. **Responsibilities** + Assist senior research staff in the planning and operation of the CDC Clinical Reference Laboratories. + Conduct mostly independent execution of reference laboratory activities including reference value assignments, analytical method development, maintenance and optimization. + Independently maintain clinical reference methods. + Independently coordinate reference measurements with internal and external partners. + Conduct and coordinate communications with internal and external partners about technical aspects of reference method operation and to resolve issues of moderate complexity. + Independently coordinate laboratory data processing and analysis. + Analyze complex laboratory data and present results using statistical software. + Automate data analysis and data review processes by using appropriate software. + Generate, review and distribute laboratory reports to internal and external partners in a timely manner. + Organize educational events on technical aspects of reference method operation. + Adhere to the universal precautions with regard to the handling of biological samples and biological waste. + Adhere to CDC/NCEH/DLS, CLIA 88, ISO guidelines with regard to laboratory protocols and quality control. + Adhere to the CDC/NCEH/DLS policy of treating all data as confidential. + Ensure ISO compliance of laboratory activities and independently operating electronic quality management system. + Adhere to the CDC/NCEH/DLS and Battelle policy of laboratory safety and security. **Key Qualifications** + Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and 6+ years’ experience or equivalent. + Technical knowledge and experience with clinical reference method development and operation + Experience with establishing and maintaining compliance with ISO 17025 and 15195. + Experience in coordinating internal and external ISO audits. + Experience in instrumental analytics. + Good communication and writing skills. + Documented administrative experience in laboratory operations. + Documented laboratory data analysis experience. + Experience using Microsoft Office products such as Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook as well as JMP and R. **Benefits: Live an Extraordinary Life** We care about your well-being, not just on the job.
