The Opportunity:
The Chemical Recovery Department Training Coordinator role is responsible for the technical training programs, safety initiatives, and employee development while aligning departmental efforts with business goals. Ensures compliance with OSHA, DOT HAZMAT, and internal standards.

Create a positive and Safe Work environment and continually place safety above all else in all aspects of my job. Attend/Assist/Conduct – Chemical Recovery monthly Safety Mtgs. - Work to involve crews in Safety Mtg. Support Safety Excellence and Safety Committee efforts. Ensure Safety Training of new employees and employees training in new jobs.Ensure Safety is addressed through one-on-one contact with operators while in Training Dept. or during normal day-to-day operation.Participate in any Incident Investigation as needed.DOT HAZMAT Trainer of Record.Performed LOTO Audits for OutagesProvide monthly updates on the total of near misses and safety conversations to the Recovery team.
Recovery Production
Prioritize work being done in the Training Dept. to reach all business goals.Schedule and track all compliance training documentation.Support all new product developments by:Aiding in development of procedures.Developing training materials.Administer all Training & Assist Supervisors in training needs.On capital projects, focus on training needs for employees to ensure successful implementation.Fill in for Operational Assistants, Foreman (Days) vacancies as needed.Assist as needed with all Recovery, Recaust & Tall Oil Production issues and problems.Assist and work Recovery, Recaust Outages and shift lead on Shutdowns.Perform/Assist as needed - LOTO's of equipment.Support the Workforce Development (WFD) through needs, resources, and best practices. Execute any action plans through the Training Dept.Update/Maintain a Data Base for the Recovery training needs & ProceduresAssist as needed with Boiler Audits at the mill site and other facilities. Provide communication and facilitate learning and application from BLRBAC.
Training
Updated/Maintain Recovery Technical Skills Training PlanUpdate/Maintain all Qualification Standards for Chemical Jobs.Maintain and update the Training Manuals/materials for Chemical Dept.Administer Qualification Tests & LMS for employees Training on new jobs. Develop/Update/Revise all Qualification Tests.Update/Maintain a Data Base for all completed Qualification TestMonitor training progress of employees and be involved in their training. Provide feedback on employee's progress to Supervisor's and Dept. Manager.Deal with low performers training on jobs through timely feedback to supervisors and management.Encourage/lead crew members training in new jobs to solve issues at their level.Encourage all to communicate ideas, concerns and suggestions.Reinforce to employees training on new jobs to control Environmental, water usage, chemical loss, etc.., and reporting procedure to Sludge Plant and Operations Assistants and Manager.Help train/develop set-up Foremen for Chemical Dept.Train/develop Training as needed for any new Chemical Dept. Policies.Revise/develop any SOP's that may be needed for Chemical Dept.Update/Maintain a Data Base for all Chemical SOP's "G" Drive for Operators access and also update notebooks in control room.Develop training plans for the department and review with Department Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent’sBack up administrative assistant on scheduling when they are going to be out. DOT
DOT HAZMAT Trainer of Record for Chemical Job Specific & DOT HAZMAT Training.Ensure all Chemical DOT HAZMAT Training is in compliance and maintain updated and correct DOT Training records for Chemical Dept.
PSM
Manage and train on all things having to do with PSM program for the Chemical Process area.Maintain all PSM records.
Reports
Provide a detailed Monthly Report of the Training Dept. activities to Chemical Dept. Manager.Provide compliant % trained to Manager and Training Manager.Report % trained and available to setup Manager and Training Manager.
Other
Assist Conduct “New Hire” Tour of Chemical & Pulp Depts. for all new employees’ orientation training.Work with Chemical Department personnel to resolve problems in the area.Participate in interview panels for new hires and other hiring events.Work with Safety Department, Pulp, Power, Woodyard and Paper Machine trainers as needed.
What you will need to succeed:
Minimum ten years of Chemical Recovery experience required with at least two years of Chemical Recovery supervisory experience in either a permanent or set-up role.Proficient computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office.Strong leadership ability along with high ethical standards, with focus on employee safety, job knowledge, and regulatory compliance requirements.Solid ability to organize and plan, working independently with minimal supervision.High School degree/GED requiredAbility to interact collaboratively as part of a team.Strong communication skills, including ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.
