Job Overview:

The charge nurse is responsible for the assessment coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of safe and effective patient centered care during her or his assigned shifts on assigned unit. Assists the Nurse Manager in the responsibility for the quality of nursing care, the management of personnel and management systems on a specific unit on a designated shift.

Qualifications:

Required:

Graduate of National League of Nursing Accredited School of NursingNJ RN licenseAHA BLS ProviderPediatric Advanced Life Support PALS certification or eligible. If not certified at hire, expectation to receive certification within one year of hireEvidence of leadership abilityEvidence of interpersonal skill and ability to collaborate with othersPhysical stamina and ability to safely lift and move objects and people in Pediatric inpatient care areas

Preferred:

BSN degreeThree years of Pediatric nursing experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

NJ RN licenseAHA BLS ProviderPediatric Advanced Life Support PALS certification or eligible. If not certified at hire, expectation to receive certification within one year of hire

Scheduling Requirements:

Shift working, 7:00pm 7:30am36 hours/ weekFull TimeMust work every other weekend and meet holiday commitment

Essential Functions:

Delivers direct nursing care and|or education to patients and families when indicatedParticipates in the orientation, development and supervision of personnel assigned to unitMotivates staff to improve their performance to improve unit and patient care outcomesDisplays competence in the performance of unit-specific skills to be a resource and mentor for team membersDemonstrates an understanding or regulatory requirements and professional practice guidelinesMay be required to function in the role of relief supervisor in the absence of the Supervisor in assuming responsibility for assigned shift as applicableFulfills on-call responsibilities when assignedEnsures availability of an appropriate use of equipment and suppliesMaintains knowledge and promotes mission, vision and values of CSHMaintains competence as staff nurse and is a resource to other team membersAssigns and delegates patient care as appropriate considering staff members, levels of Nursing experience, competency and knowledgeCollaborates with other departments in a professional manner to deliver safe, quality patient centered careConsistently appraises clinical performance and learning needs through evaluationAddress performance issues appropriately while treating employees consistently, fairly, and respectfullyExhibits consistent professional behavior and is accountable for actions with regard to professional issuesDemonstrates effective communication, conflict management, interpersonal skills and team building activitiesMust attend designated management meetings
