Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC), Dallas, TX is pleased to announce a Non-CPE Second Year ACPE Residency Program in Maternal Child Health (MCH) for the 2025-2026 academic year. Applications from internal and external candidates are now being accepted for the following specialty:
1. Women’s Services at BUMC
Introduction: At Baylor University Medical Center Dallas, we recognize that a woman not only needs specialized care during childbirth, but throughout her life. BUMC is ranked annually as the “Best Place to Deliver a Baby.” We are dedicated to providing an extensive array of services that address the full breadth of maternal child health. The Chaplain Resident will be part of the Interdisciplinary Team for your foci.
This specialty will provide a context for gaining expertise in the following areas of Pastoral/Spiritual Care:
Obstetrics: Obstetrics at BUMC cover the entire scope of maternal needs, from paternal care to post-partum support. These services combine the advanced technology expectant mothers desire with the compassionate care they deserve.
The Caruth Labor and Deliver Center: Women labor, deliver, and recover in Labor and Delivery Rooms. Each room is discretely equipped with advanced technology while being beautifully decorated. These spacious rooms allow for care to be brought to the mother and her baby, letting the new family remain together during the entire birth process.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): The NICU is a Level 3 unit-the highest level of care available-that provides advanced life-support services and technologies for premature and seriously ill newborns.
Antepartum Unit: The Ante Partum Unit is for high-risk pregnancies. Women who are admitted to the unit are considered at risk for pregnancy-related complications and require hospitalization prior to delivery.
Maternal child health includes L&D, NICU, Antepartum, and Postpartum.
2. Non-CPE Chaplain Resident I
This position is tailored for an individual interested in a specialization in women’s
ministry and pursuing Association for Professional Chaplains Board Certification. There is no tuition expense.
· The BUMC Manager of Pastoral Care will primarily supervise the resident. Educationally, the resident will attend a minimum of one CPE resident seminar per unit.
· Individuals interested in this offering should apply by submitting a current ACPE residency application with currently revised answers to the several requirements plus a statement as to your motivation to study this specific area of pastoral care.
· The motivation statement should demonstrate a passion for studying pastoral care of women, their families and clinical staff and include an understanding as to how one’s personal history and experience has led to this interest. All applicants must also submit evidence of attaining Level II status within ACPE.
Work Schedule:
Sun., Mon., & Wed. 11:30 am – 8:30 pm
Tues. & Thur. 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Hours Per Week: 40 – 48 hrs.
The MCH Non-CPE Chaplain Resident I will work a minimum of 40 hrs. per week up to 48 hrs. per week based on Pastoral Care needs within assigned clinical areas.

Job Summary
The Chaplain Resident 1 offers compassionate spiritual and emotional support to all Baylor Scott & White Health patients, family members, and staff. This support is given regardless of faith background or religious affiliation as part of a holistic, multidisciplinary team approach. The resident serves in a one-year residency program under the Clinical Pastoral Education Program accredited by ACPE: The Standard for Spiritual Care and Education and Baylor Scott & White Health policies and procedures.
Essential Functions of the Role
Fulfills CPE requirements; continues professional development of behavior-based competencies in the delivery of spiritual care services.Organizes, promotes, and conducts religious services for patients, families, and staff. This includes weekly worship, memorial services, baptisms, weddings, anointing, and coordinating bereavement needs.Works with the Professional Chaplain, the \"Mentor,\" in providing spiritual care within interdisciplinary teams.Supports the end-of-life care for patients by offering spiritual support and counseling to patients and families.Partners with physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and staff. They form an interdisciplinary team to assess patient needs and enrich care.Properly documents spiritual care and pastoral assessments and care within the EPIC templates.Conducts a pastoral assessment of a patient's spiritual and emotional status and the need for spiritual care.Key Success Factors
Knowledge of philosophical systems and religions.Knowledge of the methods and methods of pastoral care and the role of a chaplain in an institutional setting.Knowledge of the religious beliefs and practices of various faiths, groups, and denominations.Able to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing.Relational and listening skills.Skill in counseling patients, family members and staff.Ability to counsel people during periods of stress.Ability to passionately participate as a member of a professional therapeutic team.Ability to continue pastoral professional development.Enroll in or complete a Master's degree in theology or a related field at an accredited institution preferred.Denominational endorsement for chaplaincy, ordination or commissioning to ministry preferred.Belonging Statement
