JOB SUMMARY
\nThe Chaplain Resident 1 provides compassionate spiritual and emotional support for all Baylor Scott & White Health patients, family members and staff, regardless of faith background or religious affiliation as part of a holistic, multidisciplinary team approach. Serves in a residency program of one (1) year duration in accordance with the Clinical Pastoral Education Program accredited by ACPE:The Standard for Spiritual Care and Education and Baylor Scott & White Health policies and procedures.
\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
\n\nFulfills CPE requirements; continues professional development of behavior-based competencies in the delivery of spiritual care services.\nOrganizes, promotes, and conducts religious services for patients, their families and staff including weekly worship, memorial services, baptisms, weddings, anointing and coordinating bereavement needs.\nWorks collaboratively with the Professional Chaplain who serves as a ?Mentor? in the resident?s provision of spiritual care within the context of the interdisciplinary teams context.\nSupports the end-of-life care for patients by offering spiritual support and counseling to patients and families.\nPartners with physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and ancillary staff as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team in assessing patient needs and to enrich patient care.\nProperly documents spiritual care and pastoral assessments and care within the EPIC templates.\nConducts a pastoral assessment of a patient's spiritual and emotional status and the need for spiritual care.\n\nKEY SUCCESS FACTORS
\n\nKnowledge of philosophical systems and religions.\nKnowledge of the methods and methods of pastoral care and the role of a chaplain in an institutional setting.\nKnowledge of the religious beliefs and practices of various faiths, groups, and denominations.\nAble to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing.\nRelational and listening skills.\nSkill in counseling patients, family members and staff.\nAbility to counsel people during periods of stress.\nAbility to passionately participate as a member of a professional therapeutic team.\nAbility to continue pastoral professional development.\nEnrollment in or completed a Master's degree in theology studies or closely related discipline at an institution accredited by a member of the council for higher education accreditation preferred.\nDenominational endorsement for chaplaincy, ordination or commissioning to ministry preferred.\n\nBENEFITS
