JOB SUMMARYPrepares for scheduled operations and arranges sterile set‑up of instrument table according to established procedures. Assists surgeons by passing instruments and supplies, holding retractors and anticipating surgeons' needs during course of surgery. Cleans operating room and stores equipment and supplies.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
Education: High School graduate with formal training as a surgery tech. The state of Indiana recognizes the following as formal training:
Completion of an accredited and approved post-secondary program followed by certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA).
Completion of surgical technology training while serving in the military and able to produce documentation to support.
Demonstration of having worked as a surgical technologist prior to July 1, 2009.
In Indiana it is the responsibility of the surgical technologist to prove to an employer that they meet one or more of these requirements.
Licensure: Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA). If qualifying education is from military or due to grandfathering those active prior to 2009, must possess or be able to obtain certification by the NBSTA within90 days of hire. CPR certification on hire or able to obtain within 60 days.
Experience: 2 years in operating room as a surgical technologist preferred.
