Job Overview
The Pharmacy Technician I plays a vital role in supporting pharmacy operations within the hospital setting. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this position assists in the preparation and distribution of medications across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and surgical units. Responsibilities include medication selection, compounding, labeling, and delivery, as well as the use of electronic health records and pharmacy automation systems. Technicians rotate through various areas of the pharmacy to maintain broad competency.
Job Requirements
High School Diploma or GED Active Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential Accepted certifications: PTCB or ExCPT (National Healthcareer Association) Active registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy TechnicianKey Responsibilities
Prepare non-sterile medications: select, count, compound, package, label, and deliver per guidelines Operate and maintain automated dispensing machines; resolve discrepancies and manage inventory Accurately fill stock orders, emergency carts, and medication boxes Transport medications efficiently (e.g., tubing, cart delivery, IV runs, STAT orders) Maintain inventory: rotate stock, remove expired items, reorder supplies, and ensure safe storage Manage controlled substances inventory (CII–CV) and report discrepancies promptly Support workflow optimization and demonstrate initiative in daily operations Use pharmacy technology and automation systems; troubleshoot and report issues Access and update patient records, process Rx messages, and print labels Provide courteous and professional communication with staff and patients Assist in onboarding and training of new team membersAdditional Information
