Job Overview

The Pharmacy Technician I plays a vital role in supporting pharmacy operations within the hospital setting. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this position assists in the preparation and distribution of medications across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and surgical units. Responsibilities include medication selection, compounding, labeling, and delivery, as well as the use of electronic health records and pharmacy automation systems. Technicians rotate through various areas of the pharmacy to maintain broad competency.

Job Requirements

High School Diploma or GEDActive Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credentialAccepted certifications: PTCB OR ExCPT (National Healthcareer Association)Active registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician

Key Responsibilities

Prepare non-sterile medications: select, count, compound, package, label, and deliver per guidelinesOperate and maintain automated dispensing machines; resolve discrepancies and manage inventoryAccurately fill stock orders, emergency carts, and medication boxesTransport medications efficiently (e.g., tubing, cart delivery, IV runs, STAT orders)Maintain inventory: rotate stock, remove expired items, reorder supplies, and ensure safe storageManage controlled substances inventory (CII–CV) and report discrepancies promptlySupport workflow optimization and demonstrate initiative in daily operationsUse pharmacy technology and automation systems; troubleshoot and report issuesAccess and update patient records, process Rx messages, and print labelsProvide courteous and professional communication with staff and patientsAssist in onboarding and training of new team members
