This is a professional position involving responsibility for the evaluation, planning, and implementation of occupational therapy services for individuals with physical, emotional, developmental, or learning disabilities. The Occupational Therapist conducts assessments, develops individualized treatment plans, and provides direct therapeutic intervention aimed at improving the individual's ability to perform daily living and academic tasks. The Occupational Therapist works both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team and may provide supervision and direction to Occupational Therapy Assistants and Aides. An Occupational Therapist does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
+ Evaluates students or individuals to determine occupational therapy needs through standardized and non-standardized assessments;
+ Develops and implements individualized treatment plans based on assessment results and in collaboration with other educational or healthcare professionals;
+ Provides direct occupational therapy to individuals or groups to improve fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care, motor planning, and other areas of functional performance;
+ Selects and adapts therapeutic activities, techniques, and equipment to meet individual needs;
+ Confers with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure therapy goals are integrated into the individual's educational or care plan;
+ Fabricates or recommends adaptive devices and splints to support functional independence;
+ Supervises and guides the work of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides, including reviewing documentation and providing clinical direction;
+ Maintains detailed records of evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and reports in accordance with regulatory standards;
+ Participates in Committee on Special Education (CSE) or interdisciplinary team meetings as required;
+ Provides training and consultation to staff and families regarding occupational therapy strategies and accommodations;
+ Ensures proper maintenance, cleaning, and inventory of therapy equipment and materials;
+ Maintains a safe and organized therapeutic environment.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
+ Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and terminology of occupational therapy;
+ Ability to assess and interpret functional deficits and strengths related to school or daily activities;
+ Skill in planning and implementing appropriate therapeutic interventions;
+ Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with students, families, and interdisciplinary teams;
+ Ability to observe, record, and analyze treatment outcomes and modify interventions accordingly;
+ Strong documentation and organizational skills;
+ Empathy, patience, and a commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities;
+ Ability to supervise and guide support staff in carrying out therapy-related tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Possession of a valid license to practice as anOccupational Therapistissued by theNew York State Education Department.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
+ Ten (10) month position based on the school calendar.

+ Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
