Job Summary

\n

The Certified Nursing Assistant - Health Unit Coordinator handles clerical and patient care tasks under the registered nurse's supervision.

\n

Essential Functions of the Role

\n\nCollects and records patient data. Reports information and observations to nursing team members promptly. Obtains and records patient vital signs, heights, weights, intake and output, and finger sticks to check blood sugar. Reports results and observations.\nHelps patients with daily activities, changing linen, and getting in and out of bed. Assists with ambulation as appropriate. Prepares patients for meals and helps with eating if required. Answers and responds to patient call lights and requests promptly. May also be asked to be a sitter for patients needing constant observation.\nCompletes records, files, forms, and documents related to work area management and patient care. This includes admissions, surgeries, transfers, discharges, and obtaining the physician call list. This could also include filing medical record documents as needed. Maintains a clean and organized work area of records, files, forms, and reference documents. Checks, updates, and maintains facility boards, tele-tracking, pneumatic tube system, and telemetry box reconciliation according to departmental policy, procedures, and guidelines.\nTranscribes physician orders, monitors, and communicates pending orders as appropriate.\nPrepares reports, purchase orders, projects, memos, and letters using computer programs.\nGreets visitors and helps them as needed. Answers telephones and contacts the nursing team and medical staff using pagers, beepers, and cell phones. Tracks call light response time for the unit. Assigns phone and location devices to appropriate staff.\nPerforms work area duties as directed by the nurse or physician. Runs errands, picks up supplies, and transports patients.\nMaintains inventory, requisitions, and stocks work area supplies and equipment.\nMay help with non-medical patient care duties like making coffee, transporting patients, providing ice, water, blankets, assisting with feeding, and turning patients.\nAttends in-services, unit meetings, and conferences.\n\n

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED EquivalentEXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -

Cert Nurse Assistant (CNA)Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
