Certified Athletic Trainer (Indiana University Northwest)

The Certified Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the physician and other clinical staff in the care of patients. Responsible for providing care to injured patients and developing programs to prevent injury and illness. Essential Functions: + Responsible for following patient care from check in to check out + Liaison between patient, physician, or other clinical staff + Responsible for taking patient history, initial evaluation, and documentation + Design and educate patients on home exercise protocols per the Physician’s request(s) + Responsible for patient setup and education of in office procedures + Prepare for and assists Physician with in-office procedures + Responsible for brace and crutch fitting and product education + Triage patient messages, phone calls and questions appropriately, whether it is resolving issue within the scope of practice or physician utilization, and provides triage with other ancillary staff as needed + Responsible for maintaining clinic flow between all areas of the clinic + Counsel patient regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and outcomes + Completes special projects as assigned + Other duties as assigned Competencies: + Knowledge of a large range of orthopedic ailments + Assessment and evaluation skills + HIPAA compliance Location: Indiana University Northwest (Gary Campus) Work Environment: Work is performed in a clinical environment. Involves frequent personal and telephone contact with patients, physicians, and other healthcare personnel. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. It is possible work may involve interaction with injured or sick patients. Role Qualifications: + Must be at least 18 years of age + Must have reliable transportation + Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook + Digital literacy Preferred Experience Requirements: Minimum of 1 year experience in athletic clinic; orthopedic clinic Minimum Education Requirements: + High school diploma or the equivalent + Bachelor’s degree in related field + BOC certified + Current Indiana state Athletic Training licensure, certification, or registration Required Skills: + Ability to analyze situations and develop solutions + Ethical reasoning and decision-making + Strong attention to detail + Time management, prioritization, and sense of urgency + Excellent verbal and written communication skills Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods, work longer than eight (8) hour shifts, and to work both day/evening shifts. Work may hand dexterity as well as the need to reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
