The Relief Production Supervisor must be fully qualified in two roles: Plant Production Supervisor and Plant Control Room Operator [CRO], and will provide relief for Supervisor/CRO positions throughout the year and be responsible for the overall production/operation of the plant process during those assigned shifts. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Supervision of the assigned crew including coaching, counseling and training employees needing skills on shift, employees learning advanced positions, and achieving the best utilization of those highly skilled employees on shift. Supervise kiln repairs when needed.Provide support and assistance to other Process Supervisors, Pyro-Process Supervisor, Mill Engineer and the Maintenance or On-Duty supervisor when needed.Ensure compliance with Company safety policies and MSHA regulations. Conduct crew safety meetings and required workplace exams to ensure a safe working environment. Responsible for monthly departmental safety meetings.Ensure plant operation within environmental regulations and limits.Administration of Company policies including overtime and absenteeism. Maintain housekeeping standards of the crew and assigned areas.Communication of plant requirements to on-coming shift and maintenance personnel. Interface with technical support groups on operational matters.Support the Cement Region Operating Principles as a member of the leadership team.Ability to maintain a high level of productivity from employees on their shift.Administer when necessary positive and/or progressive disciplinary action.Conduct semi-annual and annual reviews with employees, and review and evaluate employee performance and recommend merit increases.Utilize provided training programs using both in-house and outside sources.Other projects or assignments as directed by the production manager. During outages, this position will be assigned tasks out in the field.Flexibility to switch shifts/crews based on business needs is required.Control Room RequirementsOperation of entire plant from central control room through a modern control system, operate equipment including, but not limited to the Roller Mills, Kiln, Clinker Cooler, Finish Mills systems, and all ancillary support systems plant wide. Trouble-shooting production, process, process control, equipment and quality problems.Broad understanding of cement manufacturing process, with kiln burning experience an asset.Technical degree or applicable plant operator certifications.Capability to troubleshoot and to direct crews to correct mechanical and electrical problems.Effective supervisory, interpersonal and communications skills.Proficiency in operating a sophisticated process control system technology and software.Monitor all equipment in the plant, such as temperatures, pressures and amp gauges interpreting gauges, process trends, and instruments to and adjust as necessary. Use the control system automation as provided. Coordinate activities of operating personnel. Has the authority to assign routine and non-routine work.Answer incoming calls in a professional and courteous manner and direct calls as needed.Optimize production of a quality product (kiln feed, clinker and cement) within company specifications. Work in cooperation with Lab personnel in the effort to produce quality products. This may include cross training and running samples with Lab personnel to effectively learn the chemistry of clinker and cement products. Accountable for personnel and equipment safety, production rates, emissions and other process variables as assignedMaintain accurate records of the kilns and their auxiliary equipmentMust clear ATF certification for receiving/handling /using Cardox GeneratorsPerform other tasks as assigned by Production SuperintendentEnsure Plant and Company objectives are met PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or GEDCement Production KnowledgeExcellent work history - minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar work environment with thorough knowledge of the Mill & Kiln processExpected to be proficient in kiln operations within 4 months to ensure safe and efficient production processes Must have extensive knowledge of the physical layout of the entire plant, i.e., water and airlines, conveyor systems, etc KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must be able to exercise independent judgment.Knowledgeable of MSHA standards and requirements.Effective supervisory, interpersonal and communications skills.Possess excellent verbal communication and written skills.Working knowledge of appropriate computer applications.Ability to work with little or no supervision.Must be a team player, with good listening and people skill sets. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Lift up to 50 pounds when needed.Ability to climb up to 150’ on stairs and catwalks and perform supervisory work.Ability to work at heights up to 350’ above ground levelVisual acuity, speech & hearing, hand & eye coordinationWalking, climbing stairs or ladders, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, and squatting to perform the essential functions of this production supervisor or CRO positionMust use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required WORKING CONDITIONS Works in all weather conditions including heat [air temperatures and radiant], cold weather, icy conditions, rain, wind, high humidity and is required to work in all plant environments. Incumbent will be exposed to vibrating equipment, mechanical and rotating machinery, electrical and pneumatic type hazards, working at heights, nighttime operations, within confined spaces, all situations that demand the use of proper personal protective equipment [PPE]. May have exposure to noise, dust, clinker, cement, bauxite gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, grinding aids, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, and other chemical used in the plant, etc. (See MSDS’s), using PPE where required.
