Cell Culture Scientist II
**Work Schedule** First Shift (Days) **Environmental Conditions** Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards, Laboratory Setting, Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.) **Job Description** **Summary:** The Scientist II for Cell Culture will be an integral member of the Cells Manufacturing Team, responsible for the production of cultured cell lines and expressed antibodies/proteins using cell culture-based expression systems. **Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):** You will perform hands-on manufacturing tasks and work in accordance with production schedules. Must possess good mathematical skills and provide accurate data documentation. Must be well-organized and able to adapt and be flexible to a fast-paced manufacturing environment. In a timely and efficient manner, this person can work independently to produce a quality product as well as work well as part of a team to implement ideas for continuous improvement. **Specific responsibilities include:** + Perform cell culture activities including cell line maintenance, cell banking, bioreactor operations, cell-based expression and cell harvests in a Biosafety Level-2 (BSL-2) environment. + Monitor and document cell growth and viability, ensuring consistency and quality in cell culture processes. + Perform accurate and aseptic lab techniques, good documentation practices, and good manufacturing practices. + Use of general lab equipment (centrifuges, spectrophotometers, pipettes, Biosafety Cabinets, bioreactors, etc.). + Assist in the transfer of new products, processes and protocols from R&D to Manufacturing; ensure that proper training is given to respective individuals; confirm that protocols are clear and accurate. + Initiate and own Problem Reports for planned and unplanned deviations and failures. + Be an agent of change and a role model leader for peers. + Accurately document and complete all manufacturing batch records independently. + Open change orders to build and revise documentation related to the department. + Quickly navigate through laboratory database systems independently. + Follow verbal and written instructions. + Maintain a clean and safe work environment. + Follow all departmental SOPs, guidelines, and procedures. + Call out issues timely and optimally. + Proven understanding of Microsoft Office Suite products with emphasis on Excel, Outlook and Word **Qualifications:** + Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biological sciences required + 2+ years’ experience in the application of cellular or microbiology laboratory techniques in a manufacturing environment or R&D laboratory (not just coursework) + Strong background with large cell culture techniques. + Strong understanding of GLP and GMP processes and documentation. + Preference for experience using bioreactors (i.e. rocking incubators). + Preference for experience culturing human, animal and insect cell lines as well as hybridomas. + Excellent communication (written and oral) skills, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment. May be asked to lift weight of 45 pounds or more with assistance and/or with equipment on occasion. **Compensation and Benefits** The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $31.73–$47.60. This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
