Casual Staff Nurse - Cardiac Cath Lab

UPMC Somerset is seeking a Casual, Staff Nurse to join their Cardiac Cath Lab!
The Staff Nurse is a key member of the care delivery team, responsible for setting care standards and ensuring quality. They manage patient care for groups of patients and their families, using independent judgment and collaboration with the healthcare team. The role involves leadership, partnership, and supervision, fostering relationships with physicians, other providers, patients, and families to achieve desired outcomes. The Staff Nurse also shows a growing commitment to the community and the nursing profession.
Our Lab is open Monday through Friday from 7 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. This role involves working varying scheduled and on-call shifts Casual RNs must maintain 36 hours in a 6-week period. This can be made up between in lab and call hours.
Responsibilities:
+ Actively participates in clinical development and RN residency programs for new hires, seeking opportunities to learn from experienced nurses. Uses feedback from peers, preceptors, and leaders to improve practice and shows enthusiasm for continuous learning.
+ Identifies patient and family education needs and provides basic education to support care. Pursues professional development through nursing organization memberships and regular reading of professional literature.
+ Demonstrates basic research knowledge and its impact on practice by asking questions and participating in unit-based journal clubs. Shows understanding of how quality and innovation affect patient satisfaction, safety, and clinical outcomes.
+ Uses basic nursing knowledge and skills within Relationship-Based Care to meet patient and family needs. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing, and demonstrates critical thinking in identifying clinical, social, safety, and spiritual issues.
+ Demonstrates accountability for professional development and quality patient care. Recommends improvements in clinical care and workplace health, and participates in change initiatives.
+ Minimum 1 year experience.
+ BSN preferred.
**Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
+ Annual completion of a professional contributions selected from department, hospital, or system goals, and approved by your Unit Director OR certification and 1 professional contribution selected from department, hospital, or system goals, and approved by your Unit Director as set forth through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder.
+ Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held.
+ Registered Nurse (RN)
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
+ NIH Stroke Scale (NIH)
+ Act 34
*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
