Job Summary
Career Peers, professionally trained by Career Services staff, co-explore career resources with UM-Dearborn students, offering guidance on resume reviews, job search strategies, interview tips, and more! Each Peer may have opportunities to lead a special project, such as social media campaigns, podcasting, or researching best practices in the field! Career Peers provide essential front desk support by serving as the first point of contact for the office. In this role, students will gain a variety of opportunities for professional growth and development by attending career readiness workshops & Career Services events & programming.
Career Services supports UM-Dearborn students and recent alumni with career exploration and planning, job preparation, and developing job search skills. We facilitate connections between students, employers, and the community by providing a wide range of events and guidance that help students achieve their career goals!
Responsibilities*Facilitate and co-explore with UM-Dearborn students on topics such as resume and cover letter writing, mock interviews, job search strategies, and major & career exploration.Make appropriate recommendations for follow-up appointments and campus resources, as well as maintain accurate daily records of all interactions with students.Participate in Career Services events and perform other Career Services office duties as needed. Promote Career Services programs, events, & resources. Engage in mandatory career education training and professional development throughout the academic year provided by Career Services.Required Qualifications*Positive attitude and genuinely enjoys helping people.Must have strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen actively and engage professionally with others.Ability to work with a diverse campus community of students, staff, alumni, and employers.Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.Ability to work a minimum of 8 hours per week.Desired Qualifications*Ability to work the full academic year (September 2025 - April 2026).Able to use Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Spreadsheets comfortably.Federal Work Study Eligible.
