Job Summary
Assists students to evaluate their abilities, interests, talents, and personality characteristics in order to develop realistic academic and career goals. Will use counseling sessions and interest assessment tests to evaluate and advise students. Assists students to develop job search skills such as resume’ writing and interviewing techniques.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
+ Conducts individual and group counseling sessions to help clarify life career goals.
+ Administers and interprets assessments, tests, and/or inventories to determine the individual’s abilities, interests, etc., to identify viable career options.
+ Teaches strategies and skills for job hunting and assists in the development of resumes, cover letters, interviewing tips and follow up letters.
+ Conducts presentations as requested on career planning or job seeking skills topics.
+ Serves as liaison to college constituencies to promote career employment opportunities or career counseling services and programming.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, counseling, psychology or related field from an accredited college or university. One to two years of related experience and/or training.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
+ Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
+ Ability to engage students and to create and enhance their connection to the institution and each other
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of individual
+ Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
+ Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
+ Ability to administer and interpret several career assessment measures and personality tests, at least one course in tests and measurements, and/or statistics required at the graduate level.
