Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Career Development, the Career and Internship Advisor oversees the management of students' career readiness needs. The CCHL Career and Internship Advisor administers all aspects of undergraduate and graduate academic internship programs and interacts at a high level with departments, students, staff and external constituents. The Career and Internship Advisor advises undergraduate and graduate students in the College for Community Health on a wide range of career development proficiencies including career exploration, self-assessment, decision-making, and job search strategies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meet with and advise students through the internship process from exploration through enrollment ensuring all fieldwork prerequisites are met.

Provide individual career advising, group presentations/workshops (co-op, resumes, interviewing techniques, etc.) and job search support to CCHL students in their search for permanent positions, co-op, and internship opportunities.

Inform students of the different internship opportunities in their field of study.

Educate students on the internship process through workshops, classroom presentations, as well as individual advising appointments.

Support CCHL students in career exploration and job search strategies in their effort to secure on-campus or part-time jobs, and post-graduate opportunities.

Assist students to identify and utilize available career and university resources on career exploration, job search techniques, and internships/co-op opportunities

Maintain an up-to-date internship database and student fieldwork records.

Track procedural and documentation requirements for students enrolled in an academic internship

Regularly schedule meetings with departments and faculty to remain up-to-date on internship course requirements.

Maintain and/or modify appropriate forms and paperwork that students and internship site supervisors must complete

Consult on any student internship issues or problems in collaboration with department chair, faculty, and staff, and with the CCHL Director of Career Services.

Maintain communication with sites, including the review of internship descriptions so the experience complies with department standards.

Develop and maintain relationships with employers, alumni and other stakeholders to identify and develop internship and job positions on a continuous basis; includes periodic site visits.

Develop, update, and maintain affiliation agreements with sites as needed.

Collaborate with departments to update and maintain internship site and supervisor requirement documentation as needed

Develop and maintain a strong knowledge of career development and internship best practices.

Collaborate with the CCHL Director of Career Services on developing programming and career events to benefit students on such skills as resume writing, interview techniques, professionalism, and internship fairs.

Work collaboratively with the university central career services on all university wide initiatives.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED: 

Master’s degree from an accredited university in a health/human services discipline or related field.

Minimum three years of professional experience in career services, employer relations, student/academic affairs, or related field.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse faculty and staff, promote the education of students from diverse backgrounds, and who are committed to equity and justice issues in socially, culturally, and economically diverse communities and antiracism in the fields of community health.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to maintain essential, confidential records and files.

PREFERRED:

Internship experience in a higher education environment.

Experience with: Ellucian Banner Student and Handshake.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), and the Google platform (Docs, Sheets, Drive).

Strong presentation skills and an ability to work with and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and skills.

Salary Range

$73,899.90-$77,593.35 Annually
