Cardiovascular Technician – Pre-Op & Recovery
Department: Vascular Interventional Center (VIC)
Location: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 0600–1900 (rotating shifts)
FTE: 0.9 FTE (Four 9-hour shifts per week)
Reports To: VIC Supervisor
Job Summary:
The Cardiovascular Technician in the Pre-Op and Recovery area of the Vascular Interventional Center (VIC) supports the delivery of safe, efficient, and compassionate care to patients undergoing interventional procedures. This role includes performing clinical support duties such as obtaining vital signs, starting IVs, performing ECGs, assisting with patient transport, and maintaining stocked supplies to support workflow and patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with pre-procedure patient preparation including identification, documentation review, and assessments.
Obtain and record vital signs and patient condition during pre-op and recovery phases.
Initiate peripheral intravenous (IV) lines in accordance with hospital policy and training.
Perform 12-lead electrocardiograms (ECGs) and promptly communicate abnormal findings.
Safely transport patients to and from procedure areas while ensuring comfort and dignity.
Support monitoring of patients in recovery and alert clinical staff of any status changes.
Restock and maintain supply levels in the pre-op and recovery areas to ensure efficiency and readiness.
Adhere to infection prevention protocols and maintain a clean, organized clinical environment.
Participate in team huddles, safety checks, and quality improvement initiatives.
Report issues/concerns of patients to covering RN.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 6 months of hire.
Experience: None
Skills and Competencies:
Proficient in IV placement, vital sign collection, ECG performance, and basic clinical documentation.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
EPIC or other EMR experience preferred.
Flexibility with rotating shifts and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment:
Fast-paced, clinical environment within a high-volume procedural unit.
Physically active role requiring frequent walking, standing, pushing, pulling and lifting.
Frequent collaboration with interdisciplinary care teams, patients, and families.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay rate for Full Time employment is:$16.08 - $24.12. Additional compensation may be available for this role such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
