Whether that is through volunteer work, clubs, student governance, or fraternity and sorority life. This position will work directly with the SEL Events Manager by assisting with the creation, planning and implementation of various large-scale events to help grow connection, community, and a sense of “College Town Magic”. The Student Events Intern will contribute to the University of Utah’s vision of “College Town Magic” by thinking of new activities/themes for events, enhancing existing programs/events and developing new and innovative opportunities for students to engage on campus. This hands-on experience will help you learn invaluable event planning skills, creative thinking, problem solving techniques, and budget management. This position is ideal for individuals seeking experience in student activities who thrive in a fast-paced environment. **Responsibilities** Essential Functions 1. Assist with program planning, implementation, setup/cleanup of events. 2. Thinking of new event themes/activities and way to improve events 3. Assists in the creation and distribution of program materials, forms, and general correspondence. 4. Track and report on current trends to determine future program needs. 5. Work late night events. 6. Other duties as assigned Problem Solving Incumbents in this position are expected to be familiar with the department’s policies and procedures and have working knowledge of university and department organizations and procedures in order to answer and assist staff and visitors. Incumbents are also expected to demonstrate sensitivity to others’ needs while being understanding and helpful on the job. **Minimum Qualifications** Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Two years of related experience, ability to use logic and reasoning to prioritize tasks, expertise using MS Office software, and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. Database experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be preferred. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description. **Preferences** Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. Experience with event planning and marketing Experience working on a team and providing support. Ability to think creatively and stay up to date with trends.
