Your Mission: Be the Voice That Connects People and Pets
Are you a compassionate communicator who thrives in fast-paced environments and believes in the power of helping people and pets? As a Call Center Assistant at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, you’ll be the first point of contact for countless community members seeking support and guidance. Your role is essential in connecting people with the resources, education, and services that save lives and strengthen the human-animal bond.
Whether it’s reuniting a lost pet with their family, guiding someone through our intake process, or simply answering questions with compassion and credibility, you’ll make a real difference every day—one conversation at a time.
What You’ll Do
You’ll respond to inquiries via phone, email, or chat, offering information, counseling, and resources with professionalism and compassion. You'll assist customers with scheduling, intake questions, lost pet reunification, and more—all while accurately maintaining documentation and ensuring data integrity. You’ll review medical and behavioral information, verify veterinary records, and provide credible and consistent information to internal and external stakeholders. You’ll also help train and support volunteers who assist with departmental goals.
Above all, you’ll promote the ARL’s mission, services, and values in every interaction, ensuring the community receives knowledgeable, respectful, and supportive service—no matter the situation.

You have a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of customer service experience (preferred). You’re calm under pressure, confident when solving problems, and empathetic with people from all walks of life. You communicate clearly and kindly, even in high-stress or emotional situations. You're comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite and are organized with excellent attention to detail. You’re a fast learner, team player, and passionate about making a difference for animals and the people who love them.
Working Conditions
This role involves extended periods of sitting and working on a computer. You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in an environment that may involve exposure to animal-related conditions such as pet dander, waste, scratches, bites, or zoonotic diseases. Moderate noise levels and emotionally challenging calls may occur. Flexibility, emotional resilience, and a strong sense of professionalism are key.
Why Work at the ARL?
When you join the ARL, you become part of a mission that matters. Every call you take and every question you answer contributes to a more compassionate and connected community—one where animals find homes, families are supported, and lives are changed for the better.
Employment in this position is at-will, meaning either the employee or the ARL may terminate the employment relationship at any time.
In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and/or applicable state regulations, ARL will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities and encourages prospective employees and incumbents to discuss potential accommodations with us.
