Abbott Diabetes Care has opened a new site, in Kilkenny, that is at the forefront of Diabetes care with the latest technology, to manufacture FreeStyle blood glucose test strips and FreeStyle Sensors for use in diabetes management. Among Abbott Diabetes Care leading brands are the FreeStyle Precision, FreeStyle Lite and FreeStyle Libre systems.

In this role the candidate will be responsible for performing calibration functions on all testing and measuring equipment throughout all areas of the manufacturing operations. This position impacts upon the accuracy of the company's measurement and process equipment, subsequent product quality, and is essential to meeting Quality Systems Requirements and other compliance requirements. The Calibration Engineer performs precise calibrations per written procedures on measuring and testing equipment, tools, gauges, and fixtures as defined by the calibration schedule. On equipment that cannot be maintained internally, coordinates the calibration with an approved certified/accredited calibration vendor. Maintains clear and concise records to facilitate timely problem identification, development of department procedures, and to comply with internal and external regulations.
**Main Responsibilities**
+ Perform multi-discipline calibrations on all measurement systems.
+ Generate equipment specification documents for calibration standards.
+ Select calibration standards for system calibration procedures/Job Plans based on tolerance accuracy and ratios, specifications and measurement uncertainty.
+ Complete all calibration work orders within Maximo CMMS ensuring compliance to governing procedures.
+ Generate and review out-of-tolerance reports.
+ Document all calibration tasks in compliance with procedures.
+ Manage and maintain calibration standards to the highest quality at all times.
+ Be part of a proactive calibration team that work with diverse calibration parameters and always show a desire to learn and develop the calibration methods.
+ Mentor less senior team members in work group and offer guidance/counsel.
+ Provide formal training to equipment user and other calibration technicians.
+ Support audits on site.
**Education**
+ NFQ level 7 in relevant discipline (technical, engineering, instrumentation or related discipline)
+ 5+ years experience in a regulated environment as a calibration team member
+ Experience with calibration standards and calibration instruments (DMM’s, Power Meters, Oscilloscopes, voltmeters, temperature wells, SPRT’s, dataloggers, pressure standards, callipers, micrometers, etc)
+ Experience with a wide array of instruments and Metrology standards desirable.
+ Experience in working in ISO 17025 Metrology Lab desirable.
+ Understanding of measurement uncertainty and 4:1 ratio.
