We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves? **Product Development** uses design thinking & user experience methods to deliver breakthrough products and services that delight our customers. We bring innovative, exciting, and sustainable ideas to life. We have opportunities around the world for you to contribute to advancements in autonomy, electrification, smart mobility technologies, and more! In this position... Ford is seeking a motivated and talented individual to work in Underbody Systems Engineering team. Candidate will utilize emerging FEA, MBD & optimization software to more efficiently design chassis components and systems. They will also work with all sections of Chassis (suspensions, brakes, steering, tires, and wheels) and interface with program management teams, suppliers, testing activities, manufacturing, and vehicle teams. What you'll do… + Utilize emerging simulation tools to more efficiently design chassis components and systems. + Work with all sections of Chassis (suspension and steering) and interface with program management teams, suppliers, testing activities, manufacturing, and vehicle teams to automate current methods and employ optimization software to deliver optimized results by using design of experiments (DOEs), optimization algorithms, response surface models (RSMs) and neural networks. + Run topology optimization, topography optimization, gage optimization, and shape optimization on a variety of different Chassis components to reduce cost and weight. + Drive efficient product and system designs through sub-system analysis techniques. + Help create CAD parametric template models that are fully connected to CAE templates for analysis (strength and fatigue) and then loop them with optimization software to either populate an entire trade space, run an optimization, or create analytical engines. + Research, identify and develop the leading software tools and methods available to improve Ford designs and bring them to Ford. + Develop new CAE techniques, analysis procedures, and tools to improve process robustness, fidelity, and simulation execution speed. + Provide elastomer designs based on stiffness and the sizing requirements. + Collaborate with the road loads team and the engineering teams to provide them with the accelerated block cycle data for component testing. + Make use of the MBD tools for evaluating Kinematic & Compliance behavior of the suspension & steering subsystems; be familiar in using MBD tools for the chassis applications. + Set up CAE models with contact non-linearities, large displacement non-linearities and material non-linearities. You'll have... Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or a related field. 5 years of experience performing structural and fatigue CAE (static & dynamic) simulations on automotive components using NASTRAN, ABAQUS, nCode or ANSYS with high performance computing (HPC). 3 years of experience conducting topology, topography, and shape optimization using Optistruct, Tosca, Inspire and/or ANSYS. 2 years of experience conducting parametric optimization studies using HEEDs and modeFRONTIER. Even better, you may have… Master's degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or a related field. Familiarity in performing parametric template modeling in 3DX Platform. Experienced in creating templatized CAE models that couple with parametric CAD models.
