CAD Drafter-Designer

The CAD Designer takes charge of developing 3D models, crafting mechanical engineering drawings, and handling associated data in our systems.  This role supports both the design of new products and the improvement of existing designs, collaborating closely with various departments including engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers. 

Precision in calculations such as minimum wall checks, weights, surface areas, and unit conversions (mm to inch) is important for producing accurate 2D layouts and comprehensive 3D assembly models. Additionally, the role involves data entry and maintenance tasks within the Oracle database system, supporting multi-functional operations across the organization.

This position requires excellent skills in communications, process improvement, as well as configuration of CAD Software. You will need to have strong CAD skills and understanding of the SolidWorks & PDM Pro software.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be: Create models and drawings for production and non-production components including tooling, fixturing, machine layouts, valves, and systems Checking of models and drawings of varying complexities to comply with ASME Y14.5 GD&T 2009 standard Collaborate and assist in the design process following internal guidelines, standards and procedures Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical details into 3 dimensional models and 2 dimensional prints Train CAD users in core application skills and standards Collaborate with engineering & manufacturing to develop template drawings Willingness to work in teams and individually to accomplish business goals Identify areas of improvement, provide recommendations, and implement solutions by developing new tools or processes  Assist with the engineering change request and iterative design processes Setup, organize, and maintain data in PDM for effective and efficient use Assist with preparation for project meetings, design reviews, and related activities Strong communication and organization skills Creation of documents, best practices and standards

For This Role, You Will Need: Must be proficient in parametric modeling software, SolidWorks & PDM preferred Create/Load/Store 3D CAD models (individual parts & assemblies) Create/Load/Store 3D models from 2D sketches, hand drawings, or verbal concepts Generate & Check 2D drawings in compliance with ASME Y14.5 practices View placement and projection per ASME Y14.5 Identify/apply all necessary dimensions to fully detail parts and assemblies Knowledge and application of GD&T (Symbology) Familiarity/knowledge of general digital literacy including Microsoft Office products – Outlook, Excel, Word Use of Microsoft Excel formulas for calculations Understanding of supply chain, operations, and quality General understanding of materials properties (primarily metals)
  Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart: Specialty design modules such as SolidWorks PDM, Simulation, DriveWorks. Application of manufacturing processes and tools to mechanical designs SolidWorks Certification - CSWE (Certified SolidWorks Expert).
