A CAD/CAM NC Methods Analyst works full-time at RIC in Dearborn (Department V252). The Analyst is responsible for machining high precision prototype 3D metal or plastic models to a specified dimensional accuracy for powertrain components, scientific apparatus, testing components and fixtures. This is performed with a high-level working knowledge of Mastercam X24. The candidate is responsible to assure integrity of model geometry, advising on material selection and machining to specification and cutting feasibility. The candidate must have extensive experience in working to gage tolerances. The Analyst will be expected to work with local employees (represented and non-represented Ford personnel as well as non-Ford personnel) and communicating with customers, engineering, and management.

Required

Toolmaker Journeyman Card or equivalent / 8 - 10 years minimum experience Ability to utilize all modules of Mastercam software independently Comprehensive understanding of GD&T applications Thorough knowledge of metallurgy – associated application and heat treatments Knowledgeable in machining all types and grades of metals; stainless steels, mild steels, alloys, tool steels, aluminum, etc. 

Preferred

Knowledge of the available metal surface coatings, their specific applications and substrate preparation requirements. (preferred)Previous gage making experience (preferred)Experience in machining powertrain components (preferred)Solid organizational skills including proven ability to multi-taskAbility to work independentlySolid verbal and written communication skillsProficient in utilizing MS Office (Excel, Word. Develop CNC programs using both Mastercam CAD/CAM software and manual programming techniques Set up and operate CNC equipment including but not limited to Haas Vertical Mill, Fadal Vertical Mill, Mori Seiki Lathe and Hardinge Lathe Professional application of all manual tool room equipment including but not limited to ID/OD Grinder, Rotary Grinder, Surface Grinder, Honing Machine, Bridgeport Mill, DeVlieg Jig Mill and Excelo Lapping Machine. Manufacture form cutting tools required for processing work orders. Process work requests by studying work orders, prints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, CAD models and sketches. Develop and/or enhance part geometry data to facilitate NC cutter path generation  Design, machine and deliver tools for customers with only verbal direction from requestor  Interpret GD&T on all supplied documents and accurately apply as indicated. Provide daily status reports of work-load. Verify product meet the customers’ requirements utilizing all available metrology gaging and equipment. Practice and promote safe working habits and maintain a clean working environment Understand RIC processes and safety protocol Possess and promote a positive attitude and be willing to perform other duties as assigned Communicate processing issues with customers and management via email, text messages, conference calls and face to face conversations. Must be willing to work overtime when necessary.
