Summary: The responsibilities of the position encompass all of the functions of forecasting, planning, purchasing and inventory control to support sales and marketing requirements. Primary responsibilities for role: ● Responsible for coordinating the execution of the production/purchasing plan to support intra-departmental (production/validation/QA/QC) and sales &marketing requirements. ● Release, monitor, expedite and close work orders as required to support the Master Schedule. Update and maintain manufacturing processes and BOMS with new change orders. ● Balance and track inventory order status of finished goods and raw material against forecasted requirements. Review target stocks levels and adjust as required based on Sales input and forthcoming orders. ● Monitor and maintain up-to-date status on lot status of products produced and purchased, and provide support as needed to expedite the release process. ● Purchase and schedule material/product movement through the plant/warehouse to support production schedule/sales requirements. ● Maintain day-to-day interaction with suppliers and manage purchase order process to meet quality, on-time deliveries and cost targets. (e.g., RFQ’s pricing adjustments, PO releases, specification, requirement, schedule changes, returns, invoice issues) ● Support phase in/ phase out material plans as required for product introduction and/or obsolescence. Tasks include product structure set-up within a SAP/MGFPRO environment, determining BOM stop and start dates for soft transitions, processing Change Control requests, and managing first production runs from suppliers. ● Create, release and maintain reports, records and master files required for production planning, purchasing and inventory control. ● Follow all standard operating procedures and make recommendations for improvements to planning/purchasing systems and procedures. ● Monitor and report on shrinkage metrics (e.g., breakage, yields, product obsolescence) to minimize cost Additional Responsibilities + Strong background knowledge of supply base for chemicals, filters and tubing used in pharmaceuticals / biologics / nutraceuticals industry preferred. + Strong analytical skills and spreadsheet analysis, including cost modeling. Ability to read and understand specification sheets, drawings, regulations (cGMP, QS, ISO). + Expertise in material flow process knowledge (lead time, transit times, 2 tier supply, etc.) and cost drivers. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, resolve problems, meet deadlines, and handle fast paced critical work environment. + Self-starter, with strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. + Ability to analyze detail and perform structured decision-making on a daily basis. + Must be capable of multi-tasking with the ability to work well with others in a team environment. + Proactive, results oriented, with a strong attention to detail. + Excellent verbal and written communication. + Must be able to read, write, and speak English. + Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interact with personnel at all levels. Sound knowledge of MS Office, particularly Word and Excel, ERP/MRP systems for planning and purchasing (SAP experience highly desirable). APICS or CPM certification desirable. Willing to travel occasionally; once a quarter. Skills, Requirements and Education: + Education BS/BA degree or equivalent. APICS training and/or certification a plus. + Experience 2-3 years’ experience in industrial purchasing. Pharmaceutical or bioscience is a plus. Experience handling strategic sourcing and negotiation of complex business issues and risk assessments is a plus + Have 1-2 years’ experience in a manufacturing organization. + Prior experience with material planning, inventory control and production control is preferred. Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. + Ability to analyze detail and perform structured decision-making on a daily basis. + Must be capable of multi-tasking with the ability to work well with others to accomplish tasks in support of the production plan and meet deadlines. + Strong computer skills required (MS Excel, Access, Word, Project). + Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of cGMP desirable. Occupational Demands: Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment. Frequently sits for 6-8 hours per day. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Occasionally walks and stands. Occasionally bends and twists neck. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 25lbs. Frequently drives to site locations with occasional travel within the United States. Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken and written words and sentences. Interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups. Must work with diverse groups to obtain consensus on issues. The estimated pay scale for the Buyer/Planner role based in Los Angeles, CA, is $69,000 to $85,000 annually. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 5% of the company bonus pool.
