BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP OFFICER Job Summary: The Business Relationship Officer is responsible for servicing commercial borrowing classified clients engaged in various areas of business in the U.S.V.I portfolio. The incumbent must analyze, and recommend or approve credit facilities, build relationships with current customers (cross-selling), bring new relationships into the Bank and maximize the Bank’s income overall. Incumbent must monitor quality of assigned loan portfolio through regular review, risk analysis, customer visits, etc. and, where relevant, recommend proactive steps to prevent deterioration of credits and minimize loss to the Bank. Essential Responsibilities: + Regularly analyzes customers’ financial statements on a timely basis to make new recommendations and conducts annual reviews of existing business relationships, prospects, and price structures to be approved by the Bank’s Credit Chain. + Structures credit transactions to meet needs of customers and protect position of the Bank. Works closely with Bank and local counsel to achieve these aims. + Ensures documentation underlying transaction is legally valid, up to date and properly completed on a regular basis. + Restructures facilities or initiates/executes collection efforts, in cooperation with Bank counsel, in customer distress situations. + Monitors the commercials loan portfolio to ensure asset quality standards are maintained and that required documentation/collateral for protection of the Bank’s exposure is obtained and/or controlled. + Minimizes the Bank’s risk through oversight of loan delinquencies and the collection efforts/strategies appropriate to ensure repayment. + Reviews daily overdrafts and makes recommendations to Commercial Executive and Credit Executive regarding payment/nonpayment. + Coordinates with legal counsel loan closings, legal documents, attends loan closings and resolves last minute disagreements, amendments, etc. + Coordinates with attorneys, U.S. Small Business Administration for preparation and execution of loan documentation for new credit accommodation. + Plans and carries out visits to prospects. Addresses the inquiries from clients and prospects. Tracks all incoming clients’ requests and responses in adherence with compliance and legal policies. + Maintains current business relationships with customers through meetings and regular visits to evaluate the goods and services the Bank offers to suit their needs and consider new business opportunities. + Ensures that subsequent service offered by the Bank has contracted commitments to a high level of quality. + Promotes cross-selling of banking products and services (CM, POS, Smart Cash Vault, and Remote Deposit Capture, among others). + Establishes contact with managers and officers for other departments of the Bank to coordinate the provision of banking services to commercial clients. + Participates in outreach programs sponsored by the Bank geared towards increasing public awareness of activities in small business lending, to include CRA activities. + Must be familiar with the territorial law and FirstBank credit policy. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. + Customer service - manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve service; and responds to requests for service and assistance. + Knowledge in Banking laws and regulations; banking (individual and commercial) products and services; Credit policy. + Good skills in: Problem solving; selling and marketing techniques and establishing priorities, goal oriented and able to work under pressure. + Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Power Point) + Participative leadership oriented + Teamwork oriented + Strategic thinking capacity Impact of Errors: The impact of errors in this position would be able to affect the activities related to the position, main activities of other departments and activities with an impact to the main external clients. Also, it would be able to affect the confidence and the reputation of the clients and regulatory agencies. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand and walk. Ability to work under pressure as per business demands. Required to drive and visit clients from time to time. Work Environment Employees in this job work in an office environment with a comfortable room temperature, good lighting, and moderate noise. Are exposed to external elements when visiting clients. May be required to work extended hours, including holidays, should these coincide with monthly closing process or other projects/implementations. Must be available for travel within and outside of Puerto Rico should it become necessary. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting and/or Finance, or related area and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the Banking industry.
