The new facility enhances the integrated and holistic model of student health and wellbeing at MSU. Campus Recreation, Counseling and Psychological Services, and Student Health Services are the three departments of Student Wellness. Two of the departments, Campus Recreation and Counseling and Psychological Services, are seeking a highly organized and motivated individual for the Business Operations Manager role within each department.
The Business Operations Managers oversee the day-to-day business operations of the department. This position is responsible for high-level administrative, human resources, payroll, fiscal, purchasing and compliance functions as well as general office management and functions. Duties and Responsibilities Oversee business operations for the department, including, but not limited to:
Human Resources: Coordinate new employee recruitment and handle all new hire and termination procedures for both professional and student staff. Manage payroll processes, including bi-monthly payroll processing/reconciliation and payroll audits. Campus Recreation: Maintain student staff roster to include positions, pay rate, certifications. Counseling and Psychological Services: Coordinate hiring of annual doctoral and master’s level interns and GSAs.
Office Support: Provide administrative support for the Directors and staff in the department including making meeting arrangements, travel planning, support with calendars, and other general office duties. Provide reception and front desk customer service to students and campus partners in alignment with the departmental mission Counseling and Psychological Service Only: Maintain and attend to confidentiality issues. Work closely with the other Business Operations Managers in Student Wellness. Serve on committees (internal and external) as directed by the Director.
Fiscal Management: Accountable for procurement of goods/services, reviewing/approving transactions, monitor expense, revenue, and receivables, requesting payments, submitting budget transfers, requesting budget changes, and assisting with the management of annual fiscal year budgeting activities. Work closely with Fiscal Shared Services and central finance to ensure departmental resources are used in accordance with university policies and procedures related to business procedures, purchasing policies and procedures, and travel policies. Campus Recreation only: Maintain product inventory controls with regular audits in each area. Maintain knowledge and regular review of all business operational systems, automated processes, and related technology. Research and compile information to analyze and produce fiscal reports or documents in conjunction with the Director (eg. Travel projections and tracking, position budgeting forecasting, etc). Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience in a position that provides applicable experience. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills working with people from many different backgrounds. Successful experience completing complex tasks independently with minimal supervision. Demonstrated competency using different software programs and systems including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently, organizing and prioritizing multiple assignments with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality; attention to detail; while maintaining a positive, effective, and professional approach. Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining replicable, detailed, and accurate operational systems and record keeping processes. Experience in recreation, medical, health and/or wellness operations and professional office settings.
