Business Development Manager

Cavalier Custom Designs is an established division within UVA Bookstore that specializes in customized products through multiple channels which includes promotional products, custom engraving, embroidery, and direct-to-garment heat press. We are in search of a driven, hands-on leader with exceptional business acumen and proven team dynamic mindset who can grow this business further. 


The Business Development Manager’s primary focus is to drive revenue growth through strategic initiatives and partnerships. Responsibilities include sourcing, selecting, and purchasing goods or services for departments within the University and student groups, and have a strong emphasis on outreach and relationship building within the University. This role involves cultivating business, generating sales, daily operational tasks, ensuring a consistent supply of quality products at optimal prices, inventory management, support, and supervision of the team members under the Cavalier Custom Design department. The candidate must demonstrate both effective verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail and willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure optimal success. Be a brand ambassador and lead by example.

Key Responsibilities:

A deep understanding of sales principles, marketing strategies, and promotional techniques. Excellent Communication and Presentation Skills - Ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders, including sales teams, marketing teams, and senior management. Develop, build, and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients.Project Management Skills-Ability to plan, organize, and execute projects effectively, including managing timelines, budgets, and resources. Willingness to learn the different machines used to produce customization product on site including embroidery, engraving, and heat press. Collaboration-Work with various departments, including marketing, merchandising, and inventory management, to ensure a coordinated approach to purchasing and sales. Ability to collaborate with internal team members and management a must. Organization and Time Management -The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively. This includes, but is not limited to, purchasing, receiving, inventory accountability, delivery, sales orders, and invoices. In addition to the above job responsibilities, the candidate is part of a larger organization which other duties may be assigned. 

Required Qualifications:
•    High school diploma or equivalent
•    At least five years of retail or sales experience, at least three years of management experience. 
•    Strong computer application acumen including email, Teams, and Zoom.  

Preferred Qualifications: 
•    2 -3 years of project or buyer experience 
•    Understanding of Adobe Creative Apps
•    College degree

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $60,000.00 to $65,000, commensurate with education and experience. This is an exempt level, benefited position. For more information on the benefits at UVA, visit hr.virginia.edu/benefits.
