Position Summary

The Business Continuity Planning Manager is responsible for modeling the Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the company, among all departments, and all external stakeholders. The Manager of Business Continuity Planning (BCP) will serve as the process owner and strategic lead for the organization's business continuity framework. This individual will establish and mature the company's capabilities across ten critical domains of continuity planning—without direct staff management—through strong cross-functional collaboration, planning discipline, and operational rigor.

This role is critical for enhancing enterprise resilience, particularly in a healthcare organization with heavy SaaS dependence (e.g., EMR: Homecare Homebase). The ideal candidate brings a blend of technical, regulatory, and risk management expertise, with a strong ability to operationalize planning across business and IT functions.


Position Specific Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain a cross-functional governance structure for business continuity planning.

• Act as the internal lead for BCP processes and liaison to Information Security, Compliance, and Operations leaders.

• Lead recurring BIAs across clinical, administrative, and technology functions.

• Identify critical processes, dependencies, and RTO/RPO targets for both internal and SaaS-hosted systems.

• Develop and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans for all critical functions and applications.

• Collaborate with critical service areas (e.g., clinical operations, revenue cycle, IT) to identify and implement continuity strategies that mitigate key operational, financial, regulatory, and patient safety risks.

• Ensure alignment with organizational priorities, data flow mapping, and key risk areas.

• Implement a SaaS tiering and risk assessment framework.

• Review vendor BCDR practices, including HCHB, and lead annual or more frequent BCP reviews with key third parties.

• Partner with Infrastructure and Data teams to document, test, and improve IT disaster recovery capabilities across Azure and SaaS platforms.

• Ensure alignment between DR plans and business priorities identified in the BIA process.

• Design and coordinate ongoing BCP training for leaders, site contacts, and key personnel.

• Develop awareness campaigns to improve organizational preparedness and engagement.

• Lead the design and facilitation of business continuity and disaster recovery testing.

• Coordinate annual tabletop exercises and scenario simulations, documenting outcomes and driving improvement efforts.

• Create and maintain a crisis communication plan and escalation protocols for various event types.

• Coordinate multi-channel communication strategies for executive teams, clinical operations, and third-party partners.

• Collaborate with IT to ensure that backup and recovery practices meet organizational requirements and are regularly tested.

• Monitor data integrity and backup verification procedures for critical systems, including the EDW.

• Ensure BCP efforts align with HIPAA, HITRUST, CMS Emergency Preparedness Rule, and other applicable standards.

• Support audit readiness and documentation for internal and external compliance reviews.

 


Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business Continuity, Risk Management, Information Technology, or a related field.5+ years of progressive experience in business continuity, IT risk, or healthcare compliance.Demonstrated experience conducting BIAs, developing continuity plans, and leading crisis simulations.


Skills

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, team members, investors, and external parties. Strong written and verbal communications.Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces integrated healthcare at home philosophy. Familiarity with post-acute healthcare workflows, SaaS vendor management, and EMR systems (e.g., HCHB). Strong understanding of industry standards such as ISO 22301, NIST CSF, and HITRUST CSF. Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.


Physical Demands and Work Environment: The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions.
