Reuters is looking for an experienced, cool-headed and resourceful bureau chief with the energy, initiative and leadership skills to guide our coverage of Israel and the Palestinian Territories.
Based in Jerusalem, the successful candidate will have excellent source-building skills, great ideas for stories and how to deliver them, an ability to write with both flair and balance, and the stamina to ensure Reuters stays competitive amid an unrelenting flow of news that regularly sits at the top of the global news agenda. The bureau chief will need to guide a team of journalists who deliver for text and visuals on stories that range from the devastating Gaza war and broader regional conflicts to heated debates over Israeli judicial amendments and West Bank violence between settlers and Palestinians.

The role requires a confident team player, who can rigorously prioritise reporting to produce deeply reported, agenda-setting items, while ensuring our breaking news coverage is fast, smart and second to none. The bureau chief will be comfortable managing a team often facing challenging and hostile environments, and will be ready to work closely with the Reuters security team to ensure staff safety remains the paramount concern even while delivering a top-notch news file.
