Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a skilled Building Controls Specialist to join our Facilities team. This critical role involves supporting building automation systems, collaborating with maintenance teams and contractors, and optimizing energy efficiency across our site-wide operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the reliable operation of our building control systems while contributing to our mission of scientific excellence.
Key Responsibilities
System Operations & Maintenance
Install, configure, and maintain building automation control systems and components including sensors, actuators, and control panelsManage and maintain Building Automation System servers, including system updates, backups, and performance optimizationPerform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on control systems to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtimeConduct calibration of instruments and control systems to maintain accurate readings and process controlTechnical Support & Troubleshooting
Diagnose and resolve mechanical and control system issues using diagnostic tools and technical expertiseSupport Building Maintenance mechanics and trade contractors during system start-upsRespond to system alarms and implement corrective actions to maintain operational continuityCollaboration & Communication
Maintain effective communication with building users, contractors, and project team membersParticipate actively as a team member to facilitate goal accomplishment and promote collaborative problem-solvingManage multiple concurrent projects while meeting deadlinesShare relevant information and promote teamwork across organizational boundariesPosition Requirements
Education
Associate's degree in Electronics, Electro-mechanical Systems, Computer Sciences, or related fieldOR Completion of a vocational program in a relevant technical disciplineOR Equivalent combination of education and experienceTechnical Expertise
Strong understanding of control systems and related componentsExperience with building mechanical systems including air handlers, pumping systems, chilled water systems, and hot water systemsProficiency in operating, troubleshooting, and installing Direct Digital Control Building Automation Systems (DDC-BAS)Knowledge of automatic controls, system repairs, alarm response procedures, and performance optimizationProfessional Competencies

Programming experience with current and/or legacy Metasys system configuration, graphics development, and control logic implementationPrevious experience in laboratory, research, or campus environmentAdditional certifications in building automation systemsThis position can be hired at one of two levels; the selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PT3 or PT4) dependent upon the depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills. The minimum requirements of the two levels are as follows:
PT3 Level: Bachelors and 4+ years or Masters and 2+ years of experience or equivalent. The expected pay range for this level is $83,264 - $131,342
PT4 Level: Bachelors and 6+ years or Masters and 4+ years of experience or equivalent. The expected pay range for this level is $102,694 - $162,020
