Europe Seed Product Development Breeding Scientist

Corteva Agriscience is a global leader of seed, crop protection, and digital solutions in agriculture. We have an open position in our R&D organization for an inquisitive, creative, eager to learn, early career scientist to work at the intersection of world class statistics, computer science and seed product design to support our breeding operations in Europe. This Scientist position will reside within the Europe Breeding Analyst Team, which discovers, adapts, develops and supports state-of-the-art statistical methodology, breeding methods and germplasm strategies to optimize short and long-term genetic gain within Europe Seed Product Development. The position will also help us to develop and deploy the biological Whole Genome Prediction (BioWGP) methodology across Europe and beyond.
Responsibilities
Provide analytic, experiment planning and decision support to our ongoing breeding operations for the early maturity corn region in Europe. In particular for tasks relating to genomic prediction driven breeding. Help develop, optimize and deploy novel breeding strategies and methods for this region. Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop, explore and deploy the BioWGP methodology within Europe and globally.
Job Qualification - Experience and Education Requirements
PhD in Plant Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, Physiology or Computational Biology.Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with individuals of diverse language, cultural, and scientific backgrounds.Job Qualification - Technical Requirements
Solid foundation in mathematical modelling and statistical analysis methods as well as numerical methods such as stochastic optimization and simulation.A solid foundation in quantitative genetics, genomic prediction, plant physiology and crop modeling.Demonstrated intermediate to advanced scientific computing and programming skills in R. Knowledge of other scripting languages like Python and compiled languages like C is a plus.Ability and confidence to manage and manipulate large data sets.Comfortable in a Linux development environment and with terminal and remote-access applications.Knowledge of practical aspects of plant breeding is a plus but not a requirement.Willingness to learn about and operate in a commercial seed business setting.To know more about Corteva please watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3D-Avk4ZLc
