Breeding Associate
The Breeding Associate will ensure execution of experimental/operational protocols for our breeding programs and high throughput data collection to enable advancements of vegetable products.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Manage all day-to-day operations in our research trials on station: Schedule activities according to crop cycles and maintain records activities in enterprise system, including sowings, transplants, molecular markers sampling, pollinations, extractions and seed inventoryTogether with the Outsourcing team leader, ensure that staff technically performs all tasks in a correct way and on time for trials on station.Work with cutting edge proprietary field research equipment for phenotyping and innovative technologies in support of our breeding pipelinesCollect quality data in enterprise systems and conduct data quality check and assurance to enable timely advancement of vegetable products and functioning of breeding programsManage seed, health, seed inventory and (support) national and international seed shipmentsLeverage metrics applications and quality control processes to realize accuracy, efficiency and expanded improvements to protocolsCoordinate with Head of Nursery & Head of Crop Production to own the plan and workforce execution for breeding operational tasks as plannedCollaborate with the TRA’s/ Breeders, in needed data collection and analysis for any off-site breeding managed from the site. Explore new technologies to increase capacity, speed up current processes, and deploy novel technologies in data collection, crop management and seed productionProactively identify opportunities to assist in improving established procedures, and lead troubleshooting activities through root cause analysis and troubleshooting techniquesEnsure compliance with Worker Protection Standards (WPS) as well as Bayer safety guidelines and housekeeping practicesPerform tasks to ensure compliance with Bayer policies and quality standard, including safeguarding of equipment daily use logs, calibration and maintenance.
Qualifications & Competencies
Crop Science (Biology/Biotechnology/ Agricultural Engineer or related field). Is a plus BSc. in Plant Breeding.With minimum 1-2 years’ experience assisting a Breeding Program.Demonstrated abilities to collect data accurately, ability to describe phenotypic plant characteristics, analyze them and interpret data.Ability to perform successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-based environment. Manages multiple projects and prioritiesStrong problem solving, track record of process improvement, and critical thinking skills.Demonstrated ability to influence partners.
