Description We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our team on a contract basis in Chicago, Illinois. In this role, you will take ownership of key accounting functions, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance, particularly within a nonprofit environment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with grant budgets and contribute to meaningful projects. Responsibilities: • Process payroll accurately and on time, including submitting payroll taxes as required. • Record and reconcile all bank transactions within the general ledger. • Ensure the general ledger is maintained and balanced with precision and timeliness. • Manage accounts payable tasks, including reviewing invoices, coding expenses, obtaining necessary approvals, and processing payments. • Perform accounts receivable duties such as invoicing, applying deposits to invoices, and managing collections. • Organize and upload supporting documentation for invoices submitted to funders. • Monitor and manage grant budgets within a nonprofit framework, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and proper reporting. The salary range for this position is $20/hr. to $22/hr. Benefits available to contract/temporary professionals, include medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. • Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting and bookkeeping. • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel. • Demonstrated experience in a nonprofit setting, with a solid understanding of grant budgets and reporting. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Familiarity with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger processes. • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all financial tasks.
