Bookkeeper
Description We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to join our team in Ventura, California. This Contract-to-Permanent position offers an opportunity to manage key financial processes for a nonprofit organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bookkeeping, with expertise in accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting. Responsibilities: • Process vendor invoices, ensuring proper coding, approvals, and timely payments. • Verify billing accuracy, address discrepancies with vendors, and maintain strong relationships. • Prepare and issue checks, ACH transfers, and wire payments while adhering to internal controls. • Track recurring expenses such as rent subsidies, maintenance fees, and utility payments. • Maintain comprehensive and accurate accounts payable records to support audits and compliance. • Generate invoices for tenants, grantors, and partners related to rent, services, and reimbursements. • Apply incoming payments to appropriate accounts and monitor aging reports for outstanding balances. • Coordinate with program staff to resolve tenant account discrepancies and ensure accuracy. • Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable ledgers during monthly and year-end closing. • Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations and funding guidelines. Requirements • Minimum of 3 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting. • Proficiency in accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. • Skilled in bank reconciliations and financial reporting. • Familiarity with Yardi software or similar accounting systems. • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain organized records. • Effective communication skills for collaborating with vendors, staff, and funders. • Knowledge of nonprofit financial guidelines and grant compliance. • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
