Job Summary

Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the harbor Boat Pilot is responsible for operating harbor boats, moving empty and loaded barges, boats, floating crane and work flats as required; traveling outside of harbor area delivering barges or boats to local shipyards or fleets for maintenance and other reasons.

What you'll do:

Operate vessels and equipment and direct workers on the vessel in the proper performance of their duties to ensure safety and efficiency.Maintain detailed log of all work performed during each day.Maintain radio contact with Operations Supervisor or Operations Coordinator to coordinate work instructions and equipment moves as required.Make regular and periodic inspections of the equipment being operated to detect unsafe conditions; correct or report abnormalities to the Operations Supervisor.Provide minor periodic maintenance and repair to equipment operated.Inspect all firefighting and safety equipment on vessels and equipment being operated.Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules, operating regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, which may include cleaning, operating mobile equipment, or other duties at various locations in the terminal that he/she is qualified to perform.

What we're looking for:

Work Experience requirement listed below:

Minimum of three years' experience performing work on towing vessels and must be able to pass an examination and/or demonstrations as determined by the Company.

Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below:

Must have valid US Coast Guard Master of Towing vessel license and Radar Observer for operating harbor boats covering operation within a 25-mile radius of mile-marker 947 on the Ohio River.

Other Requirements:

Must be capable of carrying out work assignments with little or no direct supervision.

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: M – Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.   Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
