Blanking and Grinding Operator - Afternoon or Midnight

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Production:

Follows all work instructions, procedures, and documents on manufacturing processes. Reads drawings and engineering sheets for specifications and requirements. Performs machine set-up and/or programming for new orders. Performs machine adjustments as needed to achieve the desired results. Continually operates machinery in an efficient manner to its fullest capacity. Meets daily demand and maintains the production schedule and expectation.

Process and Equipment:

Maintains process controls and sustaining a deterministic process. Provides daily feedback and support to supervisor of any production issues or needs. Provides feedback and support to engineering and/or supervisor on any process related problems or ideas to improve process efficiency. Provides feedback and support on maintenance activities including preventative maintenance, daily maintenance checks, and unplanned downtime events. Supports cross-training throughout the department by learning new skills and teaching other employees.

Quality

Maintaining, verifying, and recording mechanical specifications per the drawing into databases or data sheets when required. Quality must meet or exceed the customer requirements and company targets. Work with engineering to continually improve the processes and product.

Teamwork and Safety

Can work independently with little guidance as well as part of a team. Expresses ideas accurately and succinctly in oral and written form; effectively listens and assimilates, presents organized trains of thought, assures a timely exchange of information to other shifts.  Deals effectively with differences of opinion, influences in a positive manner, draws ideas from others, negotiates and mediates. Develops a cohesive work group, facilitates commitment and enthusiasm, assures cooperation and coordination among peers. Actively supports the health and safety program by following policies, procedures, wearing proper PPE and completing trainings in a timely manner.

Contact with others: Daily contact with peers/supervisor in BG, Engineering, and other departments

Errors: Accuracy of work and communications can significantly affect yields and costs

            within the Optical Fabrication Department. Technical errors will incur significant

            operating costs and schedule delays. In addition, technical errors may put

            expensive equipment at risk to serious damage.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education: High school diploma or equivalent   

Experience: High school diploma or equivalent 

SKILLS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Special Abilities:

Well versed in mechanical problem solving and shop math. Well-developed communication and organizational skills. Ability to handle diverse detailed tasks. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and adjust to daily work requirements. Knowledgeable in reading drawing and engineering sheets. Must be both team-oriented and self-motivated. 

 WORKING CONDITIONS

Working Conditions: Light manufacturing environment.

Mental/Visual demand: Ability to problem solve and think critically. Must be capable of performing visual inspection of optics.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Long periods of sitting or standing while performing job functions.  Must be able to transport parts throughout the building.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. Corporate EHS standards.
