Title : Birthday Coordinator Status: On-Call Reports to: Events Supervisor Location: Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) – Des Moines, IA (On-Site) Your Mission: Create Memorable Moments That Inspire Compassion Do you love planning fun experiences and working with animals and youth? As a Birthday Coordinator at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, you’ll help create joyful, engaging birthday celebrations that spark a lifelong love for animals. From mock adoptions to hands-on activities, you’ll bring energy, creativity, and heart to every event. This role is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and passionate about creating meaningful, mission-driven experiences for children and families. What You’ll Do You’ll lead the planning and execution of birthday parties hosted at the ARL, serving as the main point of contact for families from the time a request is received through the end of the event. You’ll guide party guests through fun, age-appropriate activities like mock pet adoptions, animal meet-and-greets, and crafts—making each experience both educational and memorable. You’ll ensure party areas are set up and cleaned up properly, and you’ll be responsible for the welfare of any animals involved. Most importantly, you’ll create a welcoming, safe, and positive environment for guests while representing the ARL’s mission with warmth and professionalism. What You Bring You have experience handling animals and coordinating small events, with the ability to keep things organized and fun at the same time. You’re confident leading groups, solving problems in the moment, and maintaining a high level of customer service. You’re reliable, creative, and have great communication skills. You’re also detail-oriented and proficient in basic computer tools like Microsoft Office. Above all, you bring a friendly, energetic approach that puts guests at ease and makes parties memorable for all the right reasons. Working Conditions This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods. You may be exposed to pet dander, animal waste, moderate noise, and the possibility of scratches or bites. Weekend availability is required, as most parties occur on Saturdays and Sundays.
