PT Birth Records/OB Clerk 24 hours/week variable
**Schedule:** **Part time, 24 hrs/week - day shift. Hours/days will be flexible and variable through the week - schedule built 4 weeks in advance.**
**Position Summary:**
**Birth Certificate Specialist** **works in a collaborative environment to deliver excellent customer service by performing a variety of clerical and support staff functions related to the care of patients and documenting services provided. A Birth Certificate Specialist** **is expected to obtain necessary information, prepare relevant documents, record information in patient records and support other health care providers in the delivery of service to patients.**
**What a Birth Records** **Clerk** **will do:**
**Complies information, interviews parent(s) and completes a worksheet for each baby born.**
**Completes Birth Certificate utilizing electronic birth certificate program and obtains signatures.**
**Completes hospital record of birth and Social Security Card form as appropriate. Files original birth certificate electronically with state every two weeks and mails in hard copies to the county clerks office weekly.**
**What an OB Clerk will do:**
**Admits and discharges patients on the OB Units. Obtains information from patients. Obtains patient signatures as outlined according to procedure. Explains health care policies and procedures to patients. Assigns rooms and prepares records of admissions and outpatient services. Transcribes physicians' orders. Perform a variety of clerical and support staff functions related to the care of patients and documenting services provided.**
**What an** **OB Clerk** **will need:**
**High school graduate or equivalent**
**Prior experience in a healthcare setting**
**Knowledge of medical terminology**
**clerical ability necessary to prepare routine reports and tabulate routine statistical data; interpersonal skills necessary to frequently interact in a courteous manner with patients, family members, physicians, nursing staff, visitors and other department personnel**
**Well-developed communication skills, both written and oral. Able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups representing diverse perspectives.**
