Summary of Job Duties:The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock, AR, is seeking a Biomechanics Lab Manager (Research Associate II) to join our dynamic research team within a state-of-the-art human motion capture laboratory. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day lab operations, collecting and analyzing biomechanical data, and supporting ongoing research activities.

The biomechanics lab features two advanced 3D motion capture spaces designed to assess gait and sports motion. Equipment includes an 18-camera Vicon system for both markered and markerless motion capture using Theia Markerless, embedded force platforms, electromyography (EMG), isokinetic testing, and more. The lab also houses a dedicated golf research suite equipped with a ForeSight launch monitor and simulator, TrackMan launch monitor, Swing Catalyst force plates, and an 8-camera Vicon system. Additional tools include accelerometers, IMUs, an instrumented staircase, and a HUMAC Rehab System.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Engineering, or a related field PLUS six (6) years of research experience required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Experience with motion capture systems, force platforms, and EMG data collection

Proficiency with Visual3D, MATLAB, and Excel

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a related field

Experience with isokinetic systems, instrumented staircases, and rehab technology

Familiarity with golf biomechanics tools such as TrackMan, ForeSight, and Swing Catalyst

Prior experience in lab management or research coordination


Additional Information:

Responsibilities

Collaborate with supervisor, laboratory staff, and clinicians to discuss research hypotheses and study objectives

Identify key variables and determine appropriate methodologies, including primary and alternative approaches

Ensure scientific rigor and reproducibility through proper experimental design and statistical validation

Support dissemination of research findings

Analyze motion, force plate, and EMG data using Visual3D, MATLAB, and Excel

Perform statistical analyses and interpret findings

Prepare data visualizations for reports, presentations, and publications

Contribute to manuscript and grant preparation by assembling data and figures

Assist in the submission process for publications and grants

Create posters and slide presentations for scientific meetings and local seminars

Provide general research and administrative support to ensure smooth lab operations

Other Duties as Assigned
