The Office of Wildlife exists to provide wise stewardship of Louisiana's wildlife and associated habitats and increase wildlife conservation awareness. SHOOTING RANGE GRANT BIOLOGIST DCL -A Biologist position to manage and deliver the Shooting Range Grant Development Program statewide. This position is responsible for providing additional public recreational shooting opportunities through the operation and management of the LDWF Target Range Grant program. This program is designed to develop new public shooting range facilities and expand existing facilities in Louisiana. The position secures and manages federal grant funding in support of this and related programs, identifies and recruits organizations to execute partnerships to construct, expand, and operate public shooting ranges. This position serves as the department’s expert and advisor to agency staff and the public regarding shooting range development and operations. BIOLOGIST DCL-A - HUNTER EDUCATION PROGRAM / SHOOTING RANGE PARTNERSHIP COORDINATOR The incumbent serves as the department’s expert and advisor to agency staff and the public regarding shooting range development and operations. Wildlife conservation programs of the department are largely funded by recreational shooters and hunters. Providing additional recreational shooting opportunities through the development of new shooting ranges and expansion of existing shooting ranges promotes the “user pays, user benefits” North American Model of Conservation. This job is designated as a Dual Career Ladder job as defined in C.S. Rule 1.14.1.1 regarding performance of higher level complex duties and possession of advanced specialized skills. This position will report directly to the Education Program Manager. An ideal candidate will possess: + Background in firearm safety. + Background in grants management. + Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting. + Ability to communicate professionally, orally and in writing. + Ability to problem solve. + Strong work ethic. Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus four years of experience in wildlife or fisheries, forestry, or environmental science; OR A non-thesis master's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus three years of the required specialized experience; OR A master's degree with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus two years of the required specialized experience. Supplemental Qualification for this Dual Career Ladder (DCL) position: Four years of experience in hunter or wildlife education, shooting sports education or shooting range operations or wildlife policy and/or regulations development. Job Duties and Other Information ESSENTIAL DUTIES + Develop, apply for, and manage grants to secure and provide funds for the development and expansion of shooting ranges in Louisiana. + Proactively identify and recruit potential partners to create and expanding recreational shooting opportunities. + Work with department staff and partners to develop and implement agreements resulting in the construction of new, or expansion of existing, shooting ranges in Louisiana. + Administer grants and associated programs effectively to ensure target objectives are met. + Provide strategies and potential funding sources to assist individual ranges in meeting range objectives.
