Located in the Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch area, Miramar College is one of four institutions within the San Diego Community College District. This full-time position requires 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, and may include day, evening, Saturday, and/or off-campus assignments. The selected candidate must be flexible and willing to adjust workdays and hours according to departmental needs.

Tentative Timeline (Subject to Amendments) Rd 1 interview: 10/23-24/2025 Conditions of Employment: SELECTED CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT: 

 

• Submit "official" college transcripts as stated on application (even if a degree is not a requirement for this position);

• Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (Note: The certificate must be renewed every 4 years as a condition of continuing employment);

• Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the District's expense (Clearance must be received prior to first day of employment);

Major Responsibilities: 

 

• Teach introductory and allied health biology lecture and lab courses (i.e. General Biology, Microbiology, Human Anatomy and/or Human Physiology) to the standards of the department and college.

• Participate in Biology department meetings and committees as needed.

• Assist with curriculum revision and course/program assessments.

• Work collaboratively with all faculty and staff.

• Maintain course office hours and office hours for student advisement.

• Participate in various college and/or district committees which promote participatory governance.

• Fulfill the responsibilities of a community college instructor in accordance with district guidelines and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

 

Qualifications: 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

 

Master's in any biological science

OR

Bachelor's in any biological science AND Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science

OR

the equivalent

 

Desired Qualifications: 

 

The successful candidate will have:

 

• Relevant upper division and/or graduate credit coursework in the biological sciences with a broad biology background.

• Demonstrated experience and success in planning, preparing, and teaching allied health courses appropriate for the community college environment (i.e. General Biology, Microbiology, Human Anatomy and/or Human Physiology).

• Demonstrated abilities to integrate innovative practices and methodologies in teaching and curriculum development.

• Demonstrated currency in the field through professional development activities with emphasis in DEI or culturally responsive teaching.

• Demonstrated knowledge or leadership experience in writing, developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating new curriculum, coursework materials and laboratories using current technologies.

• Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with students, colleagues, administrators, and other staff.

• Demonstrated experience or interest in working collaboratively to advance the broad goals of the College including, but not limited to knowledge and experience with Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) and Program Review processes.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate and teach effectively both orally and in writing.

• Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
