Bioinformatician – focused on protein engineering.
Tasks / Repsonsibilities
Establishment of bioinformatic methods for predicting mutations in proteins with the aim of improving expression, solubility, stability, and activity. Rational protein design, as well as AI-driven predictions to identify and evaluate potential hotspots for directed mutagenesis. Utilization of molecular dynamics methods to identify important interaction surfaces using atomistic or coarse-grained simulations. Development of internal workflows and toolkits for investigating protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions, e.g. Free energy determination. Development of strategies to optimize regulatory elements (e.g. promoter and terminator regions) for targeted control of gene expression in various host organisms. Evaluation of data from the fields of genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics to support microbiology groups. Evaluation of principles and work with external partners/consultants, provide support for collaboration. Proactive knowledge management regarding tools, methods, and best practices. Close colaboration with the areas of molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and fermentation. Documentation and presentation of results in project meetings.
Qualifications / Requirements
M.Sc. or PhD degree in bioinformatics, structural biology, biochemistry, computational biology, or a related field. Solid knowledge in the analysis of protein sequences and structures using computational expertise. Experience in predicting and evaluating mutations concerning protein structure and function. Knowledge in the analysis and optimization of regulatory DNA elements (promoters, terminators). Strong skills in Python programming and Linux environments, knowledge of machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) are an advantage. Experience with cloud computing platforms (preferably Microsoft Azure). Experience with Illumina and ONT sequencing data as well as bioinformatics NGS pipelines. Team player, self-initiative, and a structured working style. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. A passion for continuous learning and improvement. Excellent English language skills.
