Our team of interdisciplinary engineers works collaboratively with clients to design buildings and processes that are on track for safety, performance, and sustainability. **Your Key Responsibilities** The role of a BIM Lead is to work independently on small and medium projects, and as a team leader of larger projects responsible for work of BIM Technicians. The BIM Lead will be able to evaluate, select, and direct BIM environments to deliver a project. Additional responsibilities include: + From concept design to construction documentation, provide guidance to architects in the design of building envelopes by performing design and specification reviews, notably for projects with mass timber structures and building envelopes. + In projects where Stantec is providing design-assist services, coordinate with project team on the development of building envelope details and specification in accordance with established codes, standards, drawings, and other specifications. + Coordinate the development of mass timber-specific structural and secondary structural analysis for project deliverables. + Work with, and ultimately manage, project teams for the delivery of thermal, embodied carbon, energy modeling analysis and mass timber secondary structure for the design and construction of high-performance low, medium and high-rise buildings. + Lead combined mass timber façade and structure proposals and manage the reporting templates for the deliverables. Prepares/assists to prepare engineering documents, schedules, or reports, as assigned. + Conduct submittal reviews on building envelope system to confirm compliance with contract documents as well as concepts of constructability and compatibility. + Perform field reviews of mass timber construction on both new construction and rehabilitation projects. + Assist in the development of inter-operable Stantec teams and the integration of multi-disciplinary software and workflows. + Facilitate the early concept development of projects supporting the proforma/ business case utilizing the mass timber parametric costing tool for Carbon and Energy Code compliance. + Liaise with clients, contractors and authorities and representing Stantec at Industry related conferences and technical workshops. + Perform other duties associated with working in a professional engineering environment. **Qualifications** **Your Capabilities and Credentials** You are passionate and eager to advance your skillset and knowledge of mass timber development and construction in combination with Stantec’s Mass Timber Practice Leaders. The Stantec DfMA & Mass Timber Practice leverages multidisciplinary internal teams for the design and implementation of systematic façade and structure utilizing mass timber in the context of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA). Specifically, you have experience in and wish to develop advanced competencies in the field of mass timber, including but not limited to the following role types: DfMA & Mass Timber Digital Designer: + Develops a designer level of understanding of Stantec’s recommended and bespoke mass timber “Kit of Parts” elements involved in façade and structure, in the context of system estimating, project buyout, and application for varied building typologies. + Knowledge of the various supplier materials and their unique specialty engineering requirements. Providing IFC file management and coordination for the fabrication and assembly of bespoke “Kit of Parts”, with insight on mapping out the key interactions between offsite fabrication and manufacturing by strategic delivery teams as part of the project management process. + Knowledge on the delivery strategies of mass timber utilizing REVIT and cadworks for early estimation of volume and cost, facilitating supplier integration with project specific 3D fabrication modelling and analytical import- export files. + Build experience as a project manager, both building and managing internal and external teams, on a variety of mass timber projects. + Increases experience of the inter-relations between an Architect and Engineer, Additive Manufacturers, and mass timber project installation partners to define roles and responsibilities in project delivery. + Developing analytics and workflow processes to support the implementation of in-depth knowledge of sustainability and concepts of Net Emissions for the CAGBC Zero Cabon Performance Standard + Continues to learn and develop innovation with conventional construction suppliers/ materials towards market ready applications of fundamental building science concepts of control of air leakage and water penetration, thermal performance, and condensation resistance as they relate to building envelope performance and appropriate design for mass timber durability. DfMA & Mass Timber Technical Designer: + Develops a technical lead level of understanding of Stantec’s recommended and bespoke mass timber “Kit of Parts” elements involved in façade and structure, in the context of system estimating, project buyout, and application for varied building typologies. + Leading multidisciplinary building performance design analytics teams in mass timber specific carbon, thermal, energy, and building science. + Knowledge of the various supplier estimating and logistics capabilities and unique manufacturing value to fabricated and assemble the bespoke “Kit of Parts”, with insight on mapping out the key interactions between offsite fabrication and manufacturing by strategic delivery teams as part of the project management process. + Knowledge on the delivery strategies of mass timber utilizing key software and coordination of 3D fabrication modelling and analytical import- export files, including issues related to cost, schedule, site logistics, and working with construction and installation partners, and able to build processes and documents to support these delivery strategies. + Can lead and is involved with Stantec early project assessment tools and software — in collaboration with other architectural and engineering team members. + Build experience as a project manager, both building and managing internal and external teams, on a variety of mass timber projects. + Increases experience of the inter-relations between a CM, Additive Manufacturers, and mass timber project installation partners to define roles and responsibilities in project delivery. + Developing analytics and workflow processes to support the implementation of in-depth knowledge of sustainability and concepts of Net Emissions for the CAGBC Zero Cabon Performance Standard + Continues to learn and develop innovation with conventional construction suppliers/ materials towards market ready applications of fundamental building science concepts of control of air leakage and water penetration, thermal performance, and condensation resistance as they relate to building envelope performance and appropriate design for mass timber durability. + Ability to handle multiple projects with the ability to effectively prioritize. + Strong written and verbal communications skills required. + Self-motivated and organized, comfortable working with others remotely. + Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a strong customer service commitment. + Strong relationship/interpersonal skills required. **Education and Experience** + Certifications and project experience in-lieu of bachelor's degree in direct relevant fields and disciplines will be considered. + Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the additive manufacturing of mass timber. + Construction field review experience is required. + Related experience in the architectural/engineering/contractor industry. + Familiarity with structural design within the built environment is preferred. + Experience with modeling software (CADworks or Autodesk Revit required, Navisworks, NX preferred) + Experience with general business software (Microsoft Office suite) + Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record _The preceding job description is not intended to describe in detail the multitude of tasks that may be assigned, but rather to provide a general overview of the expectations and responsibilities of this position.
