Summary:
The Billing and Compliance Specialist Supervisor is responsible for the financial clearance activity for the clinics in the Emergency Department at the discretion of the Assistant Administrator. This includes direct supervision of the Billing and Compliance Specialists. The primary duty of the Billing and Compliance Supervisor is to ensure all patients receive financial clearance for all services with the appropriate amount of lead time at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Other activities include problem solving for various payers, including insurance, HMO, Medicaid, Medicare and private pay, and also special billing projects. The Billing and Compliance Supervisor is also responsible for staff workflow management, coverage, payroll and disciplinary issues with the oversight of the Assistant Administrator.
The Billing Specialist Supervisor is responsible for clear, detailed communication with the clinical and billing staffs and with payers and clients regarding various insurance-related and payment-related issues. Responsibilities may also include researching and resolving client insurance issues related to missing authorizations and referrals. Communication with clients is informative rather than confrontive, reflecting sensitive, thoughtful, courteous communication taking into account the emotional nature of our work. The team leader must demonstrate an advanced level of proficiency in all of the tasks of the billing and compliance team, and demonstrates a high level of analytical skills to complete special projects as identified and assigned.
The Billing and Compliance Supervisor is responsible for identifying trends with payer relations and clinical operations as it relates to financial clearance. The Billing and Compliance Supervisor is responsible for working directly with the Lead Compliance Specialist on billing issues that may impact timely bill posting or payment. The Billing and Compliance Specialist is also responsible for working directly with both profee and hospital financial services to resolve billing issues. The Billing and Compliance Supervisor is the main contact for patients concerning financial clearance issues.
Serves as the divisional, billing representative, educator and expert for the Department of Radiation Oncology. Reports directly to the Sr. Production Unit Manager.
Education: Requires a minimum of a HS diploma or GED. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Required Licensure, Certification, On-going Training: N/A
Work Experience:
Requires 5 years’ billing experience, of which, a minimum of two years must be supervisory, preferably in a hospital and/or university billing in a clinical setting. Previous experience in Radiation Oncology is required.
Salary Range: Minimum 22.98/hour - Maximum 40.22/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
