As the Bilingual Family Support Counselor, you will provide culturally-sensitive, trauma-informed, and family-centered services and planning that supports a client and their family to achieve their care plan goals. The Support Counselor works to ensure that clients living in Seneca’s foster care programs are stabilized in their placements by providing mental health support, skill building, crisis intervention, and case management services. The primary responsibilities are to act as a behavioral coach and mentor to clients referred into the program and collaborating with the clinician to support resource (foster) parents in their role.

Seneca’s Resource Family Programs serves as a foster family agency and the mental health provider to provide integrated services to youth in foster care and resource (foster) parents. Our program serves children and non-minor dependents with intensive behavioral, therapeutic, and/or medical needs, including youth who may be stepping down or at risk of residential treatment. The goal is to meet the complex needs of youth while working collaboratively with youth’s natural supports and county partners to help youth establish relational and physical permanency.

Responsibilities:
Support youth and families to work toward identified treatment goals and participate in the coordination of care amongst treatment team members. Support resource parents in the implementation of client treatment goals and guide them in assisting clients in their acquisition of new skills and behavioral responses. Provide mental health interventions, skill building, crisis intervention, and case management services to ensure the successful placement of clients in foster care homes and successful connection of clients and their families to community-based resources. Participate in providing emergency on-call response as scheduled. Participate in all treatment reviews, program staff meetings, in-service trainings, and IEP meetings when necessary. Complete agency and county documents, such as mental health notes and incident reports, in a way that upholds the integrity and dignity of our youth and families and their lived experiences and submit them in a timely manner. Assist with planning for transportation arrangements for school, therapy appointments, and court hearings. Participate in weekly individual and group supervisions with the program supervisor or designee as well as all staff meetings.Qualifications:
Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree OR Associate degree or equivalent + 1 year of applicable experience OR High School Diploma/GED + 2 years of applicable experience may be accepted in programs that do not have a written contract requiring a Bachelor’s degree as a minimum education level. Applicable experience can include paid or unpaid experience working with youth or families or working in the social services field Bilingual Spanish/English skill set is required At least 1 year experience in working with youth in out-of-home care or youth with emotional and/or behavioral needs and challenges Must possess cultural humility, responsiveness and ability to work thoughtfully with a diverse population, including racially and ethnically diverse youth and youth who identify as being a part of the LGBTQ+ communities Be part of a rotating emergency on-call system, scheduled with supervisor ahead of time At least 21 years of age. TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirements.
