Description Position Overview: The Benefits Specialist is responsible for the administration, coordination, and communication of employee benefit programs within an organization. This role ensures that employees understand and have access to the benefits they are entitled to while ensuring compliance with government regulations and company policies. The ideal candidate possesses excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of benefits programs, and a commitment to delivering exceptional employee service. Key Responsibilities: Benefits Administration: Administer and manage employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs, life insurance, disability insurance, and personal time off (PTO) policies. Collaborate with third-party benefits providers to resolve issues and ensure effective program delivery. Employee Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits inquiries, eligibility, and claims issues. Educate employees about available benefits, enrollment procedures, and any program updates or changes. Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing employee benefits programs, including COBRA, FMLA, HIPAA, and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Prepare and submit required reports and filings, such as 5500 forms and audit requests. Enrollment and Communication: Coordinate open enrollment periods, including planning, employee communication, and system updates. Develop and deliver clear communication materials, such as benefit guides and presentations, to assist employees in making informed decisions about their benefits. Vendor Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with benefits vendors to ensure the organization's needs are met. Participate in regular reviews of vendor performance and ensure timely resolution of issues. Continuous Improvement: Identify and recommend process improvements related to the delivery and communication of benefit programs. Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in benefits administration. Special Projects: Assist with special projects such as designing wellness initiatives, enhancing employee health programs, or supporting mergers and acquisitions activities that impact benefits administration. Requirements Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. 2-5 years of experience in benefits administration or a related HR role. Strong knowledge of employee benefits laws and compliance requirements. Proficiency in HRIS systems and benefits management platforms. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong problem-solving abilities and customer service orientation. Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Skills: Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation or similar certification. Experience with large-scale open enrollment processes. Familiarity with ACA reporting and compliance requirements. Working Conditions: This position typically operates in a standard office environment but may require occasional travel to attend vendor meetings, benefits fairs, or training sessions.
