Bench Scientist (all genders) - Biotransformation Process Development 

 

Join our dynamic Bioprocess Solutions team at Bayer Crop Science in Leverkusen, where your contributions will help us deliver cost-effective biotech-based processes for our pharmaceutical and crop protection products. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in developing and optimizing innovative enzymatic processes for producing key precursors in the synthesis of small molecule products. YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

You lead scientific projects focused on the development and scale-up of biocatalytic reactions, including multienzyme cascades and chemoenzymatic processes, to facilitate the industrialization of biotransformation steps at multi-kilogram scales, including downstream processingCollaborating closely with cross-functional project teams and communities is part of your function to seamlessly integrate biocatalysis into product development pipelines, engaging with colleagues from analytics, biotechnology, chemistry, and engineeringYou design and execute scientific experiments with defined objectives, working both independently and in collaboration with laboratory personnel while adhering to laboratory safety and compliance standardsYou independently plan, coordinate, conduct, evaluate, document, and present the scientific progress of projects, ensuring clear communication of results and insightsDriving the development of new concepts and innovations in biotransformation process solutions through collaboration with internal and external partners is also your responsibility

 

WHO YOU ARE

 

You have completed an MSc with several years of relevant experience or PhD in organic chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology, or a related discipline accompanied by a strong scientific track record and exceptional problem-solving skills; PhD is preferredYou contribute several years of robust scientific and experimental expertise in synthetic and preparative organic chemistry, as well as in biocatalysis and/or chemoenzymatic synthesis involving various enzyme classesYour proficiency in analytical methods such as HPLC, GC, and MS stands out; prior experience in industrial process development and scale-up is a valuable assetYou are familiar with molecular biology techniques, particularly in enzyme productionYour knowledge of laboratory automation and a digital mindset is clearYou possess effective and adaptable communication skills, demonstrating a strong commitment to building relationships across functions, actively seeking input from others, and solving interdisciplinary challengesExcellent proficiency in English (written and spoken) rounds off your profile; knowledge of German is a plus.

 

SCOPE

 

This is a fixed-term contract for 12 months, commencing on October 1st, 2025. Location: Bayer AG, Crop Science division, Leverkusen, Germany
