Compensation: $65,000-$75,000 per year, depending on experience

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
The Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) will conduct functional analyses of behavior to understand factors that contribute to and sustain challenging behaviors and will guide development of positive behavior repertoires. They will guide faculty and staff in development of behavior intervention plans and will construct systemic positive behavior supports across the campus – in school, as well as during residential programming - consulting, counseling, and supporting crises as needed. The BIS is a member of the Clinical Department and is assigned to a specific student cohort reporting to the Clinical Coordinator of their assigned cohort. They will maintain key relationships with all staff at Shrub Oak International School, their students, and families, to collaborate to ensure that the individualized needs of our student population are met. Having access to confidential information, discretion and independent judgement is required.
+ Conducts comprehensive assessments and reassessments of a student's functional, behavioral, and emotional needs to develop individualized support plans (ISPs)
+ Gathers and reviews data as needed to support the needs of the student
+ Utilizes a variety of treatment approaches that are safe, creative and individualized to a particular student's needs
+ Collaborates, develops, implements, and trains staff on behavior support plans to improve behavioral outcomes for our students
+ Collaborates with a students primary clinician to provide supplementary sessions and clinical work to support skill building and generalization of concepts being worked on in therapy sessions.
+ Supports with the creation and facilitation of clinically focused student groups on a variety of relevant topics.
+ Works closely with staff providing real time support, guidance, and counsel on implementing plans, as well as supporting staff to empower student development of life skills, social skills and ADLs
+ Provides crisis management push in/pull out support as necessary
+ Collaborates with clinicians and members of Shrub Oak International’s Education and Residential teams to ensure that each student's progress is holistic and integrated by considering their ITEP goals, progress and developmental needs
+ Maintains appropriate records and reports as required
+ Participates in clinical and Shrub Oak activities to advance field knowledge; engages in activities to remain at the forefront of professional development and advancements
+ Actively assists with other programs, events, and services administered through Shrub Oak and may be involved in a wider range of responsibilities.
+ Participates, as needed, in community and professional education regarding clinical matters, life skills independence and related areas

Requirements:
Experience & Education
+ Bachelor’s degree in psychology, clinical or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
+ 2 years’ experience working as a behavior specialist or similar, conducting FBAs, evaluations, and/or interventions required; 3 or more years preferred
+ Experience working with students on the autism spectrum or with developmental disabilities required; school/residential environment preferred
+ Experience with crisis de-escalation and management, including involving aggressive behaviors, required

+ Ability to handle highly challenging behaviors, including those aggressive in nature
+ Ability to get TCIS trained and complete/maintain all required trainings

Physical Requirements/Demands:
A workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines and time pressures; work regularly requires sustained concentration. Standing for sustained periods of time, bending, stretching, walking up and down stairs (building has 6 floors), around a hilly campus as needed, may also require walking between floors or between buildings at a moment’s notice. May need to lift/move boxes up to 25 pounds and move or rearrange furniture.
Work Environment:
We are a boarding school located on a 127-acre campus. The work environment will include both indoor and outdoor spaces, mostly inside the classroom or educational environment. May include work within the residential setting. The building has 6 floors accessible by staircases and elevators.
